Reaction to Sulfasalazine?

I have been on Sulfasalazine since 1994 with no problems until recently. I
started feeling these weird sensations in my chest area "not painful" and
thought they were heart related so I went to the emergency room several
times. My heart was tested and everything was alright with the heart. I have
had a lot of palpations in the past and thought maybe that was the cause.I
decided to stop taking my Sulfasalazine and after a couple days I have had
none of these sensations "I think they are spasms". Has anyone experienced
this? I Asked my doctor via letter about this and asked to be put on another
med if there is anything better. I should hear from him in a day or so.

what else changed (i.e., added other meds, stopped other meds, etc.) when
this first came on? possibly look for interactions? if you have been on it
for almost 10 years you could be giving up the wrong thing. just something
to think about.

The first time I experienced these sensations were about 3 years ago. I
stopped the Sufasalazine that time also and the sensations went away. I
haven't had any other med changes during that time period. The only thing I
know is that the sensations go away when I stop taking the Sulfasalazine.
They are not continuous,. It feels like spasms near the heart area, but
according to the doctors not heart related. If I hold my breath and tense my
stomach muscles they go away for awhile.

i used to take sulfasalazine, but i don't remember the side effects other
than possible allergic reactions. is there anything in the side effects?
