New CF comic strip (shameless plug)

my SO dumped me: I was attending the launch meeting of my new mainstream
comic strip, "The Hots."
It's syndicated with King Features, and it's about a young married
childfree couple in New York. It's written by Stephen Hersh, who did a
strip called "Bliss" a few years back for Universal Press Syndicate, the
same time I was doing "Fluff" for them. King Features Syndicate decided
Stephen's writing and my drawing would make a good match, and "The Hots"
was born.
The writer and his wife have two kids in real life, but his characters
are definitely childfree, and it's written in the contract that they
will NOT sprog and the strip will NEVER become a kid strip. CF isn't the
specific focus of the strip; it is simply a strip about adults, for
adults, and it's wittier and more sophisticated than most of the dreck
on the comics page (or else I wouldn't have agreed to do it).
The first installment will run January 6th. King's sales team has two
more months to get it in papers. YOU, my CF friends, can help. If you
want this fabulous CF comic strip - the first of its kind - in your
town, please NAG YOUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER. Tell them you've heard Nina paley
is doing a new strip for King Features, and you love her work, so you'd
appreciate if they ran the strip. Or make up some other story. Mail a
letter, make a phone call, or send an email. The more papers the strip
gets on its initial launch, the likelier it will survive beyond its
first year.
Both dailies and color Sundays are available. Every newspaper has a King
Features rep they maintain contact with. Please tell them to contact
King Features and get "The Hots."

There is much rejoicing among the ranks of CF comic strip
aficionados who are bloody sick of pronatalist pig-slop like
"Baby Blues" and FBOFW and "Marvin" etc., etc. It's about damn
time for a decent strip (stereotype-promoting bilge like "Cathy"
doesn't count) about and for grown-ups with nary a "cyoooot"
widdle sprog and its "cyoooot" widdle antics in sight.

Just sent them an email. Finally, a reason to read the local rag
(beyond the letters to the editor, which can be downright hilarious).

Nina,
Loved "The Stork" and was in your corner for the PBS funding a while
back...but, where I'm currently living the local paper puts Doonsbury in the
Op/Ed section [1]. If your strip is more controversial or mentally
stimulating than Family Circus, any effort on my part won't stand a chance.

Hey, in our paper, Doonesbury is in the CLASSIFIEDS. Can't run the risk
of anyone accidentally seeing it!

strip and "Get Fuzzy" in the same paper... it might almost balance out
"B.C."!
