The Nation
Harper's
Columbia Journalism Review
Hightower Lowdown
Smithsonian
National Geographic

The last two just started showing up one day. I never got a bill or a
notice that I had received a gift subsription, just magazines. I like
them both - even if the articles suck, the pictures are worth it. I just
found out the other day my brother subscribed to them for me.

Harper's, without a doubt, is the best bargain. A two year subscription
is about $22, and every damn thing in it gets read by me.

Newstand:

Time, which I should just subscribe to since I buy it every damn week.

Sorry to piggyback, been too busy to reply.

I used to buy a trashy girly magazine (like Cosmo, etc.) whenever I was in an
airport but since I finished college I've not been in an airport long enough to
want trashy reading. I don't really buy anything off the racks now unless
something really catches me.

In the mail we get:
Entertainment Weekly
Nintendo Power
VideoGame Informer

boring eh?

I also swipe from my parents when they're done:
Country Life
Science News
The New Yorker
Smithsonian

They stopped getting the astronomy magazines so I don't read those anymore, and
every so often I end up reading a model train hobbyist magazine of my dad's,
can't think of the title.

By mail:

Cosmopolitan
Glamour
In Style
Jane
Lifetime (which admittedly has some moo content, but also has some
interesting
material as well)
Newsweek (which I started receiving several months back and have no
idea why. Never sent for it and have never seen a bill........who
knows? Usually it goes in the garbage can.)
Real Simple (got a free two month subscription to that one.........not
sure if I'm going to continue it, though.)

On the news stand (but only occasionally):
People (usually special editions, such as the year-end issue or 50
most beautiful people)
Bride's (cause I'm planning my wedding)
Barbie Bazaar (cause I collect Barbie dolls)

My fiance subscribes to Western Horseman and various farm/tractor
magazines as well. So, between the two of us, the magazine industry is
well supported. : )

I hardly ever buy anything from the newsstand.

All from the newsstand (because apparently I live in a black hole for

I get it):

Knitters
Interweave Knits
Spinoff
Caston
Somerset Studio
Expressions
Belle Armoire
Various watercolor magazines
Whole Earth Review (when publishing)
Vogue Knitting
Some good new knitting magazine whose name I forget
And I look at the zine review magazines but haven't bought one yet

Oh, and I used to get The Studio by mail and I think my Play subscription
just ended; must renew, ditto DogEared Magazine.

I'm curious about what electronic zines people read? I get the various
publishing enewsletters at work, ditto some IT headline services, Woody's
Office Watch, etc.

I forgot about Real Simple, which I also take. If you can wade through the handful of breederish
articles, there's some really useful stuff in there.

I also subscribe to Ladies' Home Journal, which my grandmother keeps renewing for me for xmas. I never
asked for it, but it is entertaining in a trainwreck sort of way. I'm all atwitter waiting for the
fuctuplet annual birthday issue.

Drumroll, pause for horrified gasps:

Mainly just the TV guide!

Well, I'm certainly not the magazine addict I was in youth, anyway. I think
I realised in the end that I was spening a fortune on glossies and they were
going largely unread. I'd buy them for one article I was interested in and
leave the rest.

I used to buy women's mags, but that ceased years ago when I turned 35 and
realised all the ones aimed at my age group assumed I had kids. I buy
dollshouse miniaturist mags occasionally (there's an uncool hobby!) and I
might take to buying interior decor mags again, now it looks like we're
buying a new house

I'd buy a good humour/satire publication if I could find one.

Hmm, I'll probably get flack for this but, my main subs are:

Sports Illustrated
The Sporting News
Maxim
FHM
Food & Wine
Savuer

DW and I have:

Smithsonian
Wired

She has a bunch I don't keep track of. We both work in the
magazine industry so we also subscribe to many others on a
professional basis.

It's been a while since I last boought a magazine new (Computer
Source doesn't count, since that's a freebie...and one that would be
worthy of paying $$ for BTW).

I do plan on getting a subscription to Linux Journal soon; if I can
claim Community College of the Air Force as grounds for the student
discount.

Generally though, I buy my magazines used at St. Vinnie's thrift
store, primarily Astronomy Magazine and sometimes Starlog, as well as
the occasional Archie Comics Digest. :D

I subscribe to TV Guide. I get Writer's Digest through a contest I won in a
writer's newsletter.

When I go to the library, I usually read the magazines. The Writer. People. New
York Times Book Reviews. I've also read them in bookstores.

As a writer, I get magazines that I've written for. The biggest one so far has
been The Writer.

I just read a funny article in the local weekly about roommates from

things) "tasteful magazines": The Atlantic, Harper's, The Economist...

Free subscriptions

I was told that the free subscriptions that come with being a Jaycee

Sports Illustrated
