Gritty realism employed in new drive to cut young pregnancies

LONDON, Dec 29 (AFP) - Tape recordings of babies bawling and pushchairs
laden down with babycare products were launched Wednesday as the British
government's latest weapons in a drive to stem a steep rise in young
pregnancies.

[snip]

Half-hour tape recordings of crying babies will be played to girls at
schools in regions most affected by the phenomenon of
under-age pregnancies, and they will be asked to push prams laden with
nappies and milk to instill in them something of the reality of having a
child.

This is what I f***ing hate. What about the males who knock these
young chickies up, where are they whilst the gals are subjected to this
crap? It takes two to spew out a shriekling, why put ALL the blame on
the girls? Shame on the British government! A big glob of sprog snot
on the lot of ya guvment weenies!

Why do you assume that there are no parallel programs that are
aimed at the males? Does *every* pregnancy-prevention program
have to be aimed at both sexes?

Whether there are such programs or not, the fact of the matter
is that in a lot of cases, it's the chickie who gets left holding
the bag -- and the kid. (Ever hear the expression "deadbeat dad?")

If the girls can be given some form of preventive aversion therapy
where the idea of pregnancy and childbirth is concerned, it's quite
likely that they'll be a bit more resistant to acquiescing when it
comes to spreading the ol' hams.

Who said anything about blame? It makes sense to cover all the
bases. Thou doth protest too much.

"Sprog snot" is good. That's right up there with "baby batter."

*Excellent* point.

On the other hand, we all know approximately what the odds are that the
teenage daddies would have the faintest goddam thing to do with their Flesh
And Blood, so perhaps the fact that the government treated it as a
potential problem solely for the girls was just another facet of the
"gritty realism"?
