Most of the parents approved of mild spanking.

Most of the whiners who were miffed by spanking did not.

Suzanne got to plug her book "Profane Justice" 2d edition.

Looks like folks are BUYING it.

"Looks like folks are BUYING it."

While I did not watch the program because of other activities, I was close
enough to hear it. What caught my attention was the level of audience applause
seemed to be greater after a remark that favored spanking than it was after a
disapproving statement.

Another difference was in the quality of applause. At times I could hear what
sounded like a single louder-than-everyone-else applauder among those clapping
their hands after criticism of spanking. The applause after an approval
statement of traditional parenting methods seemed to be not only lounder, but
also much more uniform.

According to Amazon.com - one of the few places one can by Ms.
Shell's sell-published vanity volume - people *aren't* buying it. The
book is selling very poorly, with a sales rank of 767,877. (I didn't
realize amazon.com *had* sales ranks that low!).

In comparison, William & Martha Sears' nonspank-oriented "The
Discipline Book: How to Have a Better-Behaved Child From Birth to Age Ten"
has a sales rank of 381.

Chris, Chris.....Dr. Sears and his wife are well established physicians and
ancillary personnel.

They are also parents.

Suzanne Shell is also battling for LIBERTY INTERESTS for families (I know, you
don't have a FAMILY___you can't understand what parents go through).

Sears have prominent publishers. Sears is an excellent source. Suzanne Shell
also tells children and families and kids who are removed from homes because
they are overweight that there is so hope in battling an *immunized,
unaccountable and unsupervised agency like CPS" that their actions are noticed.

BTW, her book still SELLS. What are you peddling today?

Cheers!

You appear to be drawing some kind of "anti-spank"/"pro-spank" inference from
the sales figures for the two books. The books are not comparable in terms of
their content. Profane Justice "is twelve chapters of in-depth advice to
parents on how to prevent being falsely accused of child abuse, and if you are
charged, how to fight the charges and win. The advice in this book will keep
Child Protective Services out of your house, teach you how to recognize if your
children have been taught to turn their parents in for "abuse" such as
spanking, and how to defeat the government's attempts to "kidnap" your children
into protective custody. It gives detailed advice on successfully fighting
false allegations of child abuse in a corrupt court system."

The Discipline Book is "the definitive guide to raising happy, well-adjusted,
well-behaved children."

The content of each book is targeted toward different audiences, and therein
lies the probable reason for the disparity in sales, not the inference you seem
to be trying to draw regarding the "pro-spank"/"anti-spank" argument.
