David Brown is clearly a large part of the problem. He is actively
trying to damage these newsgroups by spamming them and responding to
his friends' spam, thereby overloading the ng with noise. It looks
like many of the regulars have left asc, so maybe he'll soon be happy
with his progress. He's too stupid to just ignore attacks against him
or simply report them. He's so stupid that he believes joining the
spammers is a solution. Or at least he pretends he's that stupid---it
could be that he's just part of this spammer gang.

I have already reported the Mad Spammer's acts against me, including
identity theft and copyright infringement. Apart from disappearances
of some of his most recent posts from some news groups (which I have
reason to believe were removed for other reasons), nothing has been
done, and other victims I have corresponded with have reported the
same (non) result from far more drastic actions.
So, look at it from my perspective: If someone is making malicious
posts which are engineered to appear in google searches on my own
name, why should I NOT take whatever measures I deem most effective to
prevent lies from being seen or given serious attention? And if
google/gmail refuses to take the most simple of steps to stop extreme
abuse of the tools they created, why should I NOT purposefully
sabotage those tools?

the detriment of it's innocent users, with no benefit aside from
whatever joy you get from being a nuisance. There is no discernible
