Steve et al,

Had one of my periodic follow-up appointments with the radiation
oncologist on Tuesday. It was supposed to be last month but my
extended 50 day hospital stay caused that appointment to be
cancelled. My PSA, drawn on 27 April, was <0.1 (undetectable for
the test used). So that is good news. When I said I was
probably in the 3-4% that had bad side effects, he said that my
side effects were out in the 0.001% range of patients. Based on
what I.P has reported from various studies, he may not be
correct.

For those who are interested in my side effects saga, I also had
an appointment with my urologist on Tuesday. He removed the
blocked Foley catheter which had been inserted to protect/block
the fistula. I had to go in and have him put it back today
because the urine leakage from the surgical incision site (rather
than through the SP catheter) had increased dramatically and
rapidly soaked through the gauze pads and other material used to
protect the site. Although the last of the stitches were removed
a few weeks back, the surgical incision is not completely healed
close, and I still have to sit funny or kneel because of the
remaining pain (which is getting better). My cardiologist is
very happy with my normal rhythm (rather than the atrial
fibrillation that I had been experiencing).

It will be late September or October before there is much more
activity because they want to make sure that the flap made from
tissue in my buttocks has not failed. Also, the plastic surgeon
who did the flap portion of the surgery is doing a cruise on the
Hospital Ship Mercy for the Summer.

Regards, Dan

Great to hear about your PSA, Dan. I cringe every time I read of your side
effect saga.
