Selon une étude réalisée en Grande-Bretagne, 77 % des patients
atteints de cancer n'avaient été orientés vers un spécialiste qu'après
avoir consulté une ou deux fois leur généraliste pour des symptômes
inquiétants. Bien que cette étude ait été réalisée en Grande-Bretagne,
les auteurs estiment que leurs résultats peuvent sans doute être
extrapolés à d'autres pays car ils témoignent de la difficulté pour le
médecin généraliste de diagnostiquer un cancer à partir de symptômes
non spécifiques. L'étude publiée fin février dans « The Lancet
Oncology » a porté sur plus de 41.000 patients.
