I most definitely hear what you are saying!
It's such a shame that those of us who actually CARE about a boy's
well-being are afraid to even talk to him, lest we get "dirty looks" (at
best), or accused of "being a pedophile".
To bad people don't know that "pedophile" literally means "lover of children"!

Your implication that only pedophiles "actually CARE about a boy's
well-being" may play well among the pedo me-toos here but is, of
course, not even remotely true.

Could you please point out where I have EVER said, "only pedophiles
'actually CARE about a boy's well-being'"?
I was making a point about how the word "pedophile" has changed.

That says nothing about "pedophiles"--I was referring to boy-lovers.
YOU defined "pedophile" according to modern thought.

Would YOU walk up to a boy on the street who is crying, and even DARE
putting your hand on his shoulder, let alone give him a much-needed hug?

I didn't say you 'said' it, I said you implied it -- which you did.

It is sad that one should have to think twice about providing a
comforting hug to a youngster in need. And yes, while I wouldn’t
hesitate to aid a child in distress, I would indeed think very
carefully about how much affection I showed if I didn’t know the child
personally. Understand that my reluctance to hug a distressed child
would be against my nature.
Kids need hugs when they are sad, or scared, or when they skin their
knee -- and if mommy or daddy isn’t around, the adult caretaker
should be free to provide such comfort. Teachers and day care workers
should be free to hug their young students and charges.
Unfortunately, in the USA, there has been such an overreaction to
the possibility that 1 teacher in 1000 may get some kind of ‘unnatural
thrill’ out of hugging little Suzy, that the blanket policy in many
schools and day care centers is ‘don’t hug for any reason’. Fear of
litigation is another reason for such policies. Past cases of alleged
'molestation' show that parents are frequently quite eager to have
their child included among the alleged victims. In my opinion that
eagerness is driven primarily by a greedy desire to get a piece of a
civil suit settlement. Also, eager interrogators and prosecutors
driven by hopes of career advancing publicity seem quite willing to
manipulate little Johnny or Suzy into false allegations.
It is indeed a sad state of affairs that the natural human tendency to
offer physical comfort to a child in distress has been arrested by an
illogical pedophile phobia and an overly litigious society. The kids
are the losers.
