Ian,

Congratulations on the birth of your son. I'm very sorry you can't
afford to see him. I don't understand at all what money has to do with
it, and it's none of my business, but if you want to talk about it...?

Best wishes,

I don't understand this. Am I supposed to think something? I knew

from the day I first started talking to Ian that he had a baby on the
way. I am happy for him becoming a father. I am sad that he is not

May I try to clarify things a little bit? My knowledge is sketchy, but
I'll do my best.

Ian married an American after having met her online. After a while, the
woman decided she didn't want him any more, and he had to leave. She was
carrying his child when he left.

Now that the child has been born, Ian is back in England and doesn't
have the money to fly to New York to see his son.

Ian can't afford it. It costs a lot to fly to the US from England. We
will do what we can to get him/us there within the year. If we're very
lucky we may get to go to Autreat at the same time. :)

That's kewl you know someone with almost the same birthday. As it
turns out, Ian and I have now each had our first child at precisely
the same age. Within 3 hours, actually. Quite the coincidence. :)

Well, Kalen, alot of women would feel resentment or anger. You and Ian got
together after the the baby was concieved so you have a wonderful and
understanding attitude. If you and Ian got together first, THEN a baby was
conceived that would be a different story. I agree with you that it sad he
can't be with his new son.

Well of course that would be entirely different! But I know he

I am not the mother. I haven't known Ian long enough for that to be
possible. We only just met for the first time in real life about 5
weeks ago. I would love to have his baby at some point, but it's just
not possible when we're 7413 kms apart.

Life is a lot simpler when people say what they mean (something esp.
important to remember when communicating with autistics).

I like his hair. When Paul saw it he told me see mom boys do have long hair.
I got his cut as a Christmas present for Clyde now I wish that I hadn't.
Paul is still not happy me getting rid of his boofull hair.

Hey, not everyone has that reaction. Not all babies are wanted. And every
new human is
a burden to the planet, if you want to take a particular viewpoint.

I think "What does Kalen think about this?" was a great question:
open-ended, cautious,
intriguing.

Why can't Ian be with his son? Does the son live on a different planet, one
we can't reach

Kalen,

Not everyone reads, or even receives, every post. I didn't know until
Alwyn replied to my post that Trevor was born in the U.S. And anyone
who didn't read Alwyn's post, or this one, and who wasn't around when
Ian originally explained the situation (before my time on the NG,
apparently), is probably *still* in the dark. So you'll probably get
this question a few more times from the uninitiated.

Hope you're not too annoyed by all the questions.

Best wishes,

Michelle W

Last time I checked travel, on this planet, cost money -- are you

offering? Or you think he should walk/swim? Neither I nor Ian have
hundreds of pounds to get from England to the US, that is why they are
not together. I don't know why so many people are finding this so
difficult to understand.

> Maybe Ian is not happy about it. I give him permission not to be.

AFAIK Ian is fine with it, as am I. The only thing that bothers me
about this is that he is unable to be with his son.

I don't know how saying what you mean can lead to grave
misunderstanding any more than expecting people to know things without
saying. My experience is quite dramatically the opposite. I am very
rarely wounded by someone saying what they mean. I am very much more
likely to be hurt by confusion and misunderstanding from people
expecting me to read minds. Especially on the internet where I mostly
communicate with strangers. I think this vague and indirect
questioning is just an annoying NT thing.

It was a sarcastic reply to a sarcastic comment. Maybe she's got piles

I thought the "something" referred to the event, or having "something to share"
... not a person. No big deal.

So Kewl, Ian, because I do have a cartoon in my mind of the Momma cuddling
her young snorter, so sweet, so truly unscientifically reptilian. Alas, a
contradiction only available in the imagination.

He is swaddled in a softly pastel-plaid receiving blanket---and God help
any who would approach these two with apparent menace !

The fire, in my scenario, is only the warmth of a Mom & Babe's love. The
smoke is a gesture, even an inside joke, to scare off the ignorant and/or
dangerous.

Peace to you on this snowbound (here) Mid-Missouri day. I hope you don't
mind my brief respite and venture into poetry: I muse of the day you and your
young son will frolic together--no matter how long the wait -- as the dragons
of eld or however you care to feel most truly yourselves, Kendra and Kalen
dancing and singing within and about with you.

Take this old woman's advice: love conquers all. Your young and newly forming
family makes sweet dreams for us all.

Snowbound in a small place, with all well, chili on the stove and Tim 120
miles away but warm, loved and ready, in good company, for a RAMS Superbowl
win or good performance,

Maureen in MO
