So I was watching croc week on Animal Planet, and it was rather
intresting when they had the history of Steve Irwin and interviewed his
parents.

His dad said he was "A Monster", always getting in trouble, and if you
turned your back, he'd be off catching lizards or climbing trees. If you
were trying to go somewhere, you always had to hunt him down and find.
His dad let him catch his first fresh water croc when he was 9. Freshies
are pretty tame, but steve leaped before he looked, and the croc was too
big. So dad pulled him and the croc into the boat.

His mom said whenever you couldn't find him, just look up in the trees.
On the way to school, if there was any wildlife on or near the road,
Steve had to stop and get out and look.

In school he was teased cuz he wasn't into sports or cars. But when he
started bringing animals he caught himself to show and tell, then he
began to fit in.

He spent most of his 20s living in the outback, chasing problem crocs.
It's obvious he loves his job, and his wife who co-hosts the show. He
now runs the animal park, his parents having handed it over to him. He
now stars in one of the most popular shows on AP.

He's Hyperactive, successful, and a role model.

I don't think anyone without ADHD would have the temerity to try to subdue
crocodiles.

So, I'm not the only one whose had this thought! I was watching the show
this week, and wondered, "Does Steve have ADHD?!"

Steve is so hyper, talks a mile a minute, and obviously a extreme risk
taker. I actually had to turn the show off because I was feeling so
stressed by his actions.

That, I can understand. Me, I can't turn it off! :)

I don't watch it much because I find him ... intrusive. He gets so close to the
camera, and speaks with such pressure and intensity. If he doesn't have ADHD,
he might be bipolar.

In any case, we all know that intrusiveness and lack of awareness of boundaries
can be part of ADHD. I was amazed to have that sensation coming across to me
over the 'tube... :)

I find that quite endearing. He's SO excited about what he's doing, he can
hardly contain himself.

The way he addresses the camera is just a matter of personal style, I think--and
it could well be a result of the director's idea of the look and feel of the
show.

Addressing the audience directly is a time-honored and effective dramatic
technique; it draws a sharp line between the action outside the character and
the action *inside* the character. It can also be a way to involve the
audience, by letting them in on a sort of "secret." Michael Caine did this well
in "Alfie."

Why does he have to "have" anything?

I have the same problem whenever he is on. I can't turn it off. Of course
that could be because I am busy watching that croc or that snake that he is
forgetting to keep an eye on. Like I could warn him or something? :o)
