Call to Abolish Betsy Gotbaum'f Feifdom
By Sewell Chan
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has not concealed his disdain for the
position of public advocate — one of only three citywide offices,
along with the mayor and comptroller — or for the current occupant of
that office, Betsy Gotbaum.
Phoenic Police were barbarains; and should have admitterd some
cuplability, if not criminal intent.
Virginia Hooper
"Gotbaum's husband, Noah Gotbaum, said in a statement Monday that
pursuing litigation was not in the best interest of the children or of
his wife's memory."

An ignorant malicious public segment as well as many in Arizona
government and press revealed themselves to be SUBhuman and malicious.

Manhattan
No matter WHAT prontenntialy hamrful injurious allegations the Phoenix
Defense may have threatened to proffer in court against the deceased
woman -- AGAINST EITHER HERSELF OR HER FAMAILY -- Carol Gotbaum
deserved to be treated in safe hands, upon her statement to olice that
she was "sick."
She was not.
Hopefully, the child litigants also sue Ms Gotbaum's NY psychiatrist
for treating he with Cymbalta in the presnece of known alcohol use --
for which there is data infication this is contraindicated, including
the FDA labeling.
Nonetheless, this is a separate issue from the rights of Ms Gotbaum to
be treated safely while in custody.
I am not with formal legal education; but I raise the question -- do
the child litigants have a NYC-court-appointed "Law Guardian," who is
placed with the duty of acting on their behalf, as one-half orphling,
due to the loss of their mother?
Gotbaums get dose of reality

The Arizona Republic
Without the forceful presence of Carol Anne Gotbaum's influential
family, the $250,000 settlement announced Monday likely would have
merited little attention.
But the Gotbaums of New York, with their many media connections, had
sought to create a story line about Carol's sad fate. They wanted to
point fingers at reckless and "beefy" Phoenix cops. They tried
creating caricatures.
And, no doubt racked with guilt, they wanted to point fingers away
from themselves for allowing an emotionally unstable, alcoholic woman
to travel alone across the continent.

Even if you hold to such thinking, this is ALL THE MORE justification
for the legal authorities in Arizona to provide the deceased women
with safe and dutiful custody, without death.
"Like her life, the circumstances of Gotbaum's death were tragic and
complex, with fingers of responsibility pointing off in countless
directions."
~ Arizona Republic
I am without formal legal education; but I believe the relative legal
concept is PROXIMATE CAUSE.
Ms. Gotbaum was in the state of Arizona; there was, to my knowledge,
no NY legal restriction holding her in custody in New York City.
The state of Arizona was at that point responsible for Ms. Gotbaum's
safety, regardless of whatever forces were at work in New York State.
This may be good reason, however, to believe that travel to Arizona
for any reason is unadvised.
[also available at www.phoenix.gov]
"When Ms. Gotbaum was in medical distress, Phoenix Police Officers and
Phoenix Fire Department personnel did all they could to save her
life."
~ Phoenix Police Dept.
That is incorrect; she was dead by the time any medical attention was
provided her.
She was in distress far before any real intervention.
Your policies need serious revisions.
If this happened, precisely as it did, in a South Amercian or Far East
country -- THE US STATE DEPARTMENT WOULD BE ALL OVER YOU!!!
SHE WAS ALREADY DEAD!!!!!!
She is CODE. She was NOT BREATHING.
That is NEAR BRAIN DEATH, and she would be a VEGETABLE with no oxygen
to her brain.

At 3:15 p.m., Mark (whose last name was not indicated in the police
report) at the Sky Harbor communications office had this conversation
with a firefighting paramedic: “Hi, I have police officers requesting
fire over [at] the Terminal 4 police office…. They had a female in
custody. They just asked me to roll fire, but they’re not saying why.
Fire: Ugh. Any way we can get any information from ’em?
Mark: Nothing.
Fire: OK, I will send one unit out. If you find out anything more, let
me know so I can –
Mark: Oh yeah, we’ll call ya right away.
Three minutes later, at 3:17, Mark tells Fire, “I don’t have any
information, but they did pull an AED [Automatic Electronic
Defibrillator, meant to revive the heart].”
Fire: Oh, they did?
Mark: Yeah. I don’t know what they’ve got over there… hey, I’m, I’m
checking with ’em right now.
Fire: OK, I’ll hold on.
Mark: …[Male voice talking in the background.] Got Fire standing by.
We got a heart rate, but no breathing…
Fire: OK, it’s a code (meaning they’re responding to a dying or dead
person).

This is a VERY DISAPPOINTING outcome for the citiznes of the United
States.
It was earlier reported that the Gotbaum family in their litigation
were seeking significant REFORMS is safety as part of their litigation
and/or settlement goals.
Based on the present reports, no significant changes in Phoenix Police
policy are intended.
This is the first time I ever looked at the Cottonwood treatment
center program; it looks very credible, attractive, and supportive!
Personal Disclosure: I have not now or ever faced the challenge of any
substance abuse disorder; and I rarely consume any alcohol whatsoever.
"Located on a scenic 34-acre campus in the foothills overlooking
Tucson, Cottonwood is a clinical and academic partner of the
University of Arizona School of Medicine - Department of Psychiatry.
We have long valued their collaboration in developing and advancing
state-of-the-art whole-person addiction and behavioral care
practices. We are proud of our international reputation as an
innovative treatment center that has been helping people to transform
their lives for over 25 years."
