Recent studies of families living with asthma, conducted by the
American Lung Association and the American Respiratory Association,
have found direct links between household cleaners and the onset of
asthma attacks.
Parents of children living with asthma need to take preventive
household measures to provide a better indoor air environment for
their child.
Household cleaners have contributed to the on set of new adult asthma
as reported by Dr. Jan-Paul Zock of Barcelona Spain in joint studies
conducted at the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology
(CREAL), the Municipal Institute of Medical Research (IMIM),
Barcelona, Spain, the Respiratory Epidemiology and Public Health
Group, the National Heart and Lung Institute, and the Imperial
College, London, in the United Kingdom.
Their findings are conclusive and demand immediate action by the EPA
to enforce regulations on the cleaning solutions industry in an effort
to help those living with asthma, and prevent asthma from forming in
adults.
Since the end of the war in 1944, 85,000 new chemicals have been
introduced into the mainstream of American homes with little, or no
government regulation. And most of these chemicals are found in
ordinary household cleaners.
On Sonoran Living, an ABC television program, Dr. Anthony Martin
displayed household cleaners and air fresheners that are sold on the
supermarket shelves, yet would be required to be handled with a Hazmat
suit on Industrial sites, as the chemicals found within them are on
the EPA's "unsafe chemicals list".
He also showed Renuzit air fresheners and stated "The chemicals used
in these products become airborne and are proven to cause liver
cancer, breast cancer, and the onset of adult asthma".
He also stated that the worst place in the United States for poor air
quality is inside our homes and is 100% related to toxic household
cleaners.
