On another note, I sold my car today to Carmax. I didn't really want to, but
I'd rather have the money in the bank than sitting unused in the garage.
It'll also cut our costs for insurance, maintenance and gas. Now to sit here
and twiddle my thumbs until the SS gets me in for a hearing on my
disability.

Yes,,,,,,, but now you get back pay if you get a good decision. Watch your
taxes with that money.

Praying that the hearing will be sooner rather than later, and that the

I can understand the car thing. If you aren't using it right now....had to
make that decision before.
Take care - thinking of you and hurrying along that decision in my mind!

If SSDI is her only income, there will be no taxes.
Even if she gets a whirlwind lump sum back payment.

Thanks Chief,,,, filing jointly? I think DeeTee's husband works. Ahh well,
she is on the back pay clock anyway.

I hear ya on the car. We decided last month to stop repairing our 89 Corolla
and we're waiting a while before buying something in its stead. It just
saved us the insurance & tag renewal. Timing was ok, we only had one month
left on each. Life with one car was much easier in the city!

Since she is married its based on their income, not just her income. But
there are special rules to prevent the taxes from being more than if you had
received it over the years it would have been paid, if you had been paid
from the time you were disabled.

Saying a prayer that they move their butts, DeeTee. Sorry to hear you
had to let your car go, but if you can't drive, I guess it's better to
have the money :)
HUGS,
Carole
Best of luck to you!

And don't wear high heels, LOL :) I was on jury duty once and the woman
was suing saying she had severe back problems. She came into the
courtroom wearing these high heels. The lawyer for the other side
thought he had lost his case as the woman was on the stand in tears
talking about her pain. She did put on a good show. However, every woman
on the jury knew that if she had severe back pain she wouldn't be
wearing those shoes. When the lawyer heard our verdict, he couldn't
believe he had won! He asked us why and when we told him, he said he
never even thought about the shoes she was wearing. I looked at him and
said "You are not a woman" :-))) I think he learned something that day.

I do hope you get it this time, DeeTee. I'll keep saying prayers for
you. I'm glad I didn't have to apply because of my arthritis. It seems
so hard for everyone. With CHF, they can't deny it as the test results
are what they are, and since I met the criteria, they had to approve it.
BIG HUGS,

y'know, what i can't figure out is why ssdi didn't give you temporary
benefits (6 months worth of benefits, at the end of which they would review
your case) when you were going through all that chemo and stuff.
it's a good sign that you got to the hearing stage, sweetie. as i
understand it, it is extreemly rare that they turn benefits down at that
point.
along with the big retroactive check, you'll probably either get medicare
right away or it'll be just a short wait, instead of having to wait two more
years.
hanging in there with you, sweetie.
