I guess the Rituxan is fighting my RA...I sure feel as though there was a
war going on. Every joint I own is screaming bloody murder. My right
shoulder is so bad I can't lift my arm. Fortunately we saw our chiropractor
this morning and she did a good job to restore my neck, but my shoulder
won't cooperate. About all I can do this week is sit and not move because
moving is too, too painful. I know I sound sorry for myself and I know there
are people who are bedridden with this stuff and I'm not, but - oh, it
hurts! Sigh. Hopefully after the next Rituxan infusion, things will start
quieting down and the pain will diminish. I sure hope so.

End of pity party for today.

#1 I am so relieved that this is what is giving you fits! I know that
sounds cold & callous but when I saw the subject line I feared your last
hernia repair had pulled out! Whew! so glad it wasn't that!

#2 Now then, what do you always tell folks who say, and i quote, " I know I

sound sorry for myself and I know there are people who are bedridden with

this stuff and I'm not, but - oh, it hurts!"? Tell yourself the same thing.
You are allowed to feel awful, especially after all you've been through.
Now then, treat yourself to whatever might help that shoulder - heat or ice
or a bubble bath or whatever.

#3 I have some nice unopened soft goat cheese to go with the whine......

No where is it written that we can't hurt or grieve for what we can't
do just because we aren't yet bedridden.

Especially someone who really goes all out to get out and go - and has
been stuck in a recliner for who knows how much of the past year or
so.

So send someone out for jawbreakers and whine away.

Any chance of upping the pain meds so at least it doesn't hurt right
now? Cause I know your version of wine is diet Pepsi.

Party? Party? - Did someone say party? I just bought sparkling cider and
strawberries. Let's crack them open with the whine and goat cheese. I have
some great whole wheat crackers, too.

Dee Tee - You are certainly allowed this, so stop feeling guilty for it.
This past year has been a lot. And I've had that 'every joint screaming'
thing when I take doxycycline and it can be overwhelming. . Call the
infusion nurse and find out if Rituxan can cause this (for antibiotics, its
called a Jarisch-Herxheimer, or JH reaction).

my first thought/fear, too! and ditto on the "whew! so glad it wasn't
that!", too.

((((((((((((((((((sweetpea))))))))))))), when our bods hurt, they hurt and
sometimes make us feel vulnerable. and sometimes, just knowing someone
handy knows we hurt and cares about us hurting makes a difference and that
difference means a lot. maybe not in the pain level itself, but in the
sense that mentally and emotionally we feel understood and comforted a
little. so what if others are bedridden and you're not -- don't waste any
of your energy or thought going there, sweetie. (i'm not bedridden either,
but i can sure use and want hugs and comforting from time to time,
especially when my pain level is beyond my ability to cope with it, too.)
it is lovingly sufficient for us, your asa family, to know that you hurt
enough to trust us and to want to come to us for comfort and understanding.
we do care about you and want to comfort you and want you to feel better.

so, here's some smoked gouda and some hickory farms beefstick slices, which
are delicious hugs that go well with "wine".<smile>

now, you just take good care of yourself and know that you deserve to be
cared about. rest as much as you are able to and get better soon, sweetie.

Hi DeeTee,
My guess (and it is only a guess) is that the steroids you received have
worn off, the tension of the infusion and the worry has kicked in causing
your joints and muscles to scream and your RA is still marching on. The
time sitting in the chair doesn't help any either. Sitting is all I did
that 2 weeks - I was so sore and tired. That is my guess anyhow - you might
like to talk to your infusion group.

Hot showers, relaxation, water (yeah, yeah, yeah - have Donna and I harped
enough about that - I know you drink it but it is for the unconverted!), and
probably painkillers for the next bit. Try to keep moving gently through
range of motion so everything doesn't continue stiffening and hurting but so
you don't lose anything. I would suggest 3x several times a day - maybe 2
times maybe 3 in each joint. That might help a little.

You are not sounding sorry for yourself - it does hurt. Darn it this stupid
disease and everything associated with it (with the exception of this
newsgroup - well rusty doesn't count) to quote some kids "sucks big time".
It all hurts - the treatments, the disease, the limitations and it is okay
to cry, stomp (if it doesn't hurt) and scream. I just hope that it works
for you and works fast. In the meantime unfortunately you might need some
prednisone or something I am afraid. Don't be afraid to report this to your
doctor DeeTee if it gets too much. They do say aching joints can be a side
effect although they don't say it is one that they stop it for. Do let them
know though.

Gentle hugs and a margarita sitting waiting for you - do you want it
salted??? I figure that is called for about now.

When I was doing chemotherapy, every session caused more joint pain. I had
forgotten that. I'll bet that is what this is....that or the stress of the
day I had Thursday.

You and I thought of the pred pulse at the same time. I'll call tomorrow. I
guess Thursday was more stressful than I had thought and I always forget
that stress will bring on a flare. I have been confined to the darn recliner
now for about 10 months. I never ever thought I'd hate my favorite chair!

hang in there - you will be feeling great in a few months and the infusions
after that kick in faster! They say it will take 8 weeks this time for me
and I believe it - I am already seeing a tiny bit less fatique. thank
goodness. They figure they can avoid even that if we catch it before I
slide downhill - all an experiment with me right now.

Just keep remembering that you are basically going through chemo - you are
depleting your B cells. This takes a bit of time to get over - you can do
this DeeTee. But I can appreciate hating that darn recliner!

So bring on the wine and cheese - you deserve it and I will toast right with
you (along with my pred pulse!)

I just pulled a pan of dark chocolate brownies out of the oven, want
some? I bring them along to the party for you. They're best when they
are still nice and warm! Yummy!!!

I agree with Kelly. Call your RD and get some pred to tide you over.
The pred from the infusion is likely worn off and you probably are
flaring from all the stress you have had to endure. Rituxan doesn't
usually make you that sore, so hopefully it is the pred / stress thing
and a steroid burst will help get you over the hump until the rituxan
starts to kick in!!!

Hang in there dear one!!!

you have a point there ---- I know I often find myself sying "it's not as bad
as sos-and-so is going throug" partly to convince *myself* that it really
isn't so bad. Then I remind myself it's ok to collapse and pity myself for a
few minutes if it makes it possible to pick myself up and go on again. Once
in a while is ok as long as it doesn't take over your life.

I hope the pred helps a lot - and that you have a quick response to the
rituxin rather than a slow one!
