Just to say that Amy & the wonderful Katie arrived with Amy's parents and we
had a lovely day.
I felt really choked up when they had to go but they are planning to come
back next year.
Amy's Mom & Dad are wonderful people and you can just see the bond between
them all. I think there will have to be a new set of books with a slightly
different spelling of the name Katie i.e. What Katie Did & What Katie Did
Next.
She was really taken up with hearing and seeing the melodeon (old fashioned
kind with pull out stops on top and of course the movement as it was played
and the mouthorgan. Earlier Katie performed quite a solo party piece with
teaspoons on the Bodhran. And when tunes finished she was first to clap for
more. It was really us who were the captive audience though - such a
beautiful 18 month old lttle girl very energetic, adventurous and so bright
and curious....oh and best of all she found my floor mop and wanted to do
the kitchen floor! She certainly knows an offer like that is the way to
make an impression here - the mop is probably still suffering from shock
though thinking it was actually still needed!
Even in the muggy heat she never wavered until nearly 6pm when she just
suddenly dropped asleep sat in Judith's arms (her Oma and Poppa. taking
turns to hold her as she never stirred) When she wakes I think she will be
still looking for us - must be strange for little ones suddenly finding they
are in a taxi, train or perhaps if she slept until they were back in Lincoln
at their hotel - instead of a house and garden in Nottingham!
They go back to London today then fly back to Houston Thursday morning.
Rich has been working. They will be tired when they get home with all this
travelling. Thankfully Amy's RA hasn't been so bad during her visit - I know
you will have been wondering about her. Its been really lovely to meet
them.
Amy's promising to post the pics that her Dad took for you all. Wait until
you see Katies lovely haircut and compare this with that 'hair on end'
'style' she had as a tiny baby! And we all had such a laugh including when
they first took her photo beside one of the old chimney pots full of flowers
when they first arrived then hours later when they asked her to have
another photo taken she walks away round the table and chairs past other
groups of flowers and goes back to that same spot to pose! (what a memory
eh?) (we now add model to the options of writer and artist - she drew a
great pen portrait of circles that was her Dad she said and I just know she
had captured his likeness.
Very interested in all the plants, Wilf the dog next door who she had a
conversation with through the headge. Liked scaling the heights of the high
step to the kitchen (I can see her mountaineering or joing Mary on the
canies or sea kayaks) Tested her strength weighlifting with a large tin of
emulsion (thankfully the lid stayed on!) - perhaps its the interior
designer/decorator in her as well? As well as telling stories and writing
them...what else??...Ooh yes she does this amazing trick - puts whole
cherry-tomatoes in her mouth (one at a time) and quickly manages to keep the
contents but expel the punctured tomatoe skin using no hands - a magician
too eh?
Well I hope this makes up a little for those of you not yet having had the
pleasure of meeting them.
Bye for now. Maureen Notts UK
