You know, it was much harder to post after AOL stopped doing
newsgroups. so this morning I reply to Kate and there is a validation
code I have to type in. When did this start and what purpose does it
serve except to make posting more difficult. Any one reading ASA not
through Google groups and are you all having to read and type a
validation code every time you respond to a post/

i post through google, M, and it IS annoying to have to type in the
code. the reason for the code is to stop spammers that post to
numerous groups at once--ie mechanically, since they can't type in a
code like a human can. i don't think our spammers fit that
description, tho, but that's the reason. my new blog had the code
dealy on it too and i made them take it off, so i hope i don't get
overwhelmed with spam. so far, so good.

Not with Thunderbird as a reader.
My cable company is very considerate of news server junkies and
hops to if anything goes awry.
Never tried posting or reading with google.

M, a couple of folks have given the names of sites that are free and that
post the newsgroups. Since I just go through my ISP I haven't paid much
attention, but if they would post again, you could go through one of those
instead of Google. I've been through them a few times and I always thought
it was a hassel anyway!

i'm soooo glad to see your post! (lost your phone number when i got a new
cell phone and the chip from the old phone didn't transfer half the contact
list.)

validation code for every post?--geesh. that sounds like a tedious drag.
it also sounds like aol came up with this as a regulating gimic to try to
cut down their load on the number of messages transversing their servers.
like, "make is harder for our customers so that they get slowed down by the
extra step and won't send as many messages."
