wrap something 'grippy' like a rubber glove around it and twist! =)

I have a few of those lid openers. A few are flat squared and a few
are round. They help to get a good grip on the jar and it pops open
easier.

My mom always told us to tap around the lid with a dinner knife. Always
worked for me.
