Chas,
I am so sorry to hear about the difficulty your father has had with
his diabetes. I am a 30 year old diabetic (diagnosed 1979) and lost my
left leg BK in 1997. It was my 32nd surgery in 10 years and I am now up
to #37. I kept having toes amputated then metatarsals, eventually my left
leg. I've been told it probably won't stop there.
I don't understand the hallucinations but the sleeping sounds like
depression. A visit from an amputee in similar circumstances, age, and in
your area couldn't do harm. There are support groups in most major cities
where amputees are more than happy to talk with other amputees and their
families..
I realize that the family pays a HUGE price with this disease and I am
so sorry you're one that has to. I know that I put my family through hell
until I realized that living wasn't so bad, even with a few compromises.
I hope you find peace and hope, and your dad too.
