I recently installed a push button shifter modification on my Harley
Softail Deuce to accommodate my lack of a left ankle. Being an LBK, I
really wondered if I'd ever be able to ride a motorcycle again. The
device that I installed has an electro-magnetic actuator that hooks up
to either the shift lever or the transmission linkage. There is a
small bracket that attaches to the handlebar with two buttons - one
for shifting up and one for down. This thing is slick! The device is
made by Kliktronic. I've already put about 400 miles on my bike in
less than a week. Let me know if I can provide any more details for
those of you wanting to ride!

Ken

ps. Thanks for the info. Russ and others.

I am a recent ak right amputee, but do intend to ride, come hell, bellatrix
or high water. This company, Kliktronic, I cannot find them onthe web, do
you have a city of origin for this company? I will need to modify the right
brake pedal to accommodate either a left application or hand control, which
I do not favor. Congrats to you for bringing the horsepower feel back to
the seat of your pants, I envy you. Good Luck to you, and let me offer some
advice, brother to brother, have contact information in your wallet, so they
can get ahold of your family if something happens. I learned that lesson the
hard way

Jim - I read your story and I'm sorry to here about your accident. My
accident wasn't as severe as yours but it still cost me a foot and
half a lower leg. So anyway, since you are a right ak you may not
need this device on you motorcycle. The Kliktronic works well to
relocate the shift function up to the handlebar. You might not want
that since you could possibly find an easier (and cheaper) way to rig
up a rear brake. The Kliktronic shifter kit costs around $800US and
is challenging to install (to say the least). In your case, you might
not want the added complexity of changing the location of the shifter
in addition to the rear brake.

The Kliktronic kit is made in the UK. A guy in Wisconsin imports them
and sells them over the phone. He is an ak who has a Harley trike
conversion fitted with one of the shifters. His Web site is
www.adaptivemotorcycling.com. To get all the information you could
want on the Kliktronic shifter, go to www.kliktronic.co.uk.

I hear you about having contact info while riding. I was out for 3
days after my crash but had a few buddies with me when it happened.
They called my wife and got the word out.

Good luck to you in getting back on the saddle. Riding motorcycles
has always been a great stress reliever for me (ironic isn't it).

Hey Russ,

I was originally going to install a jockey shifter on the Deuce but it
didn't fit right because of my forward controls. Then I caught wind
of the Kliktronic. The push button setup is much safer than a suicide
shifter too. A quick question for you: did you get the little
waterproof boot to cover the linkage? If so, where? I need to find
one of those. Maybe I'll give Tim a call. Catch ya later.

ken;

go to your local HD dealer and get the rubber boot that covers the
clutch cable at the adjustment bolt.cut it at one end and slip it over
the solenoid shaft.use a quick tie to secure it and you got a
waterproof boot.

Ken, thanks for your input. I'm sorry, but after two motorcycle
accidents, one my stupid fault for hitting gravel and the other was side
slapped by some young idiot driver, I think I've had enough stress
relief for a while. Besides, my wife said no more. She almost lost me
this time. Better to be brewing beer and watching the grass (yard kind)
and hops grow I guess.

Just had LAK amputation and was wondering if I'd ever ride again myself. I'm not much into H-D, having owned a few, bur I like the new crop of custom builders into Cafe/Bobber/track/Brat styles.
Thanks for the heads up
