Thinking of you and your Mom for the weekend. My fingers are crossed that all
goes smoothly. It will be worth it for everyone's health and safety.

Thanks for your thoughts, Mare.

So far so good. The furniture move went smoothly without a hitch (even
came up $700 UNDER the lowest quote! That's a first!) I'd recommend
these guys to anyone in the NY area. (Allied - Gold Service Movers)

The new apt. looks really nice. Still little details to do and my sis
and I have been running around like madwomen all weekend getting things
set up, while my husband and son provide a much needed distraction for
Mom. (He was loading Mom and Luke in the car to go to the park, just as
the moving van pulled up to the house. It was near perfect timing) By
the time they returned, all the stuff was in my basement and she didn't
see a thing.

Tues, not Mon. as originally planned, will probably be the big day.
Meanwhile, her boyfriend (who's leaving for a trip to CA) has been
calling all her friends/family, telling them that we're not telling her
the truth about what's going on and making us out to look like bad guys
(oops, sorry Judy I mean gals ;o) . It's very sad. He really doesn't
understand the method I've chosen to use to smooth things along slowly.
Does he really think it would help her for me to say, "Mom, this is it,
we're moving you to a new place tomorrow?"

She is so accepting of the idea of moving nearer to me now when we talk
in generalities about the near future. I've brought it up a lot on
purpose in the last few months, knowing that this was the plan, and it
seems to be sinking in. I know that the way I am doing this -- the
loving deceptions -- as Jayess so aptly called them, is right for Mom
and me. She doesn't remember one moment from the next. Telling her
outright that we're moving her now would cause her so much unecessary
anxiety. And each time I'd tell her, it would just be painful yet
again, over and over and over.....Let them think what they want. If I'm
wrong, I'll pay the price.

For now, I'm just taking it one day at a time....

Pam..been thinking about you all week and this weekend. I remember
when I moved my mom to her AL facility. It is hard, but she did come
to love it. We also had problems with her then boyfriend, just about
the same as what you said.! I have read your posts because it has now
come time for me to move her again. The facility where she is does not
have dementia or alzheimers care. I have found a great facility that
specializes in AL for people with dementia. It is something new to
our area, but when I toured it I was very impressed. Take care and good
luck. Mary

Thanks for your thoughts Mary.

In fairness to her boyfriend, who I do like very much, I am aware of
how difficult this is for him. Moreso for him than for Mom, no doubt, in
the way it will impact his life. I still don't know if he'll continue
to visit her at all, if not every weekend as he did in the past. I
truly think he is desperately "pulling straws", hoping that something or
someone might say something to us that would influence a change of
decision. Not really sure......

Hope all goes well for you. It sounds like the new place you found
might be a great answer to your mom's needs. Good Luck and keep me
posted.

Exactly... It was very hard for my mom's boyfriend, and he to is a
great person and we all like him very much....But in the long run he
knew it was the right thing for her. He did visit often until he
started having health problems of his own-he didn't live in the same
town-and does not drive now. This disease is hard on everyone..Mary
