USED TO SUFFER FROM HOUSEBOUND AGORAPHOBIA
Well, for those of you who don't know me, yet? I've been twice hit by serious
housebound Agoraphobia in my lifetime...; once, between ages: 19-20/and, once
more, again, between ages: 25-37.
BUT, NOW-A-DAYS, I GO OUT FREELY AND EASILY AT ANYTIME FOR ALL OF 24 HOURS
I'm currently aged 40+, however...and, now, am well over Agoraphobia. Namely, I
go out there any time day/night for all of 24 hours.
I STILL HAVE PERIODS WHEN I TEND TO STAY INSIDE OF THE HOME, QUITE
DELIBERATELY, FOR EITHER DAYS/WEEKS
-(Though, I still have days/or, even weeks...when I tend to stay in at home...;
but, that's no longer due to sheer fear of going out there, anymore?! Instead,
it's more due to personal choice of, simply, wishing to stay in...because I was
either seriously ill, or else, am awful hard at work getting on with quite
heavily studying.)-
ALSO, I'M STILL NOT CERTAIN...WHEN, OR, IF...IT WILL EVER COME BACK TO ME,
AGAIN?!
Also, I can't honestly say that I believe Agoraphobia illness will never come
back to hit me hard, again, in future??? Especially, whenever I feel I'm being
faced with far more pressure than I can, quite truly, bear...; that's when I
tend to run away completely from the whole wide world...; and, totally retreat
into my safe shell which is the home.
I RECENTLY SIGNED UP TO GO TO COLLEGE FOR A YEAR
Anyway, during this same year, September 2003, I signed up to go back to
college...; after, previously, having dropped out, twice(ADD-Attention Deficit
Disorder, I think?!)...; so, therefore, I'm hoping it will be 3rd time lucky
for me?!
CONCLUSION: I WROTE THIS NOTE TO HELP GIVE OTHER CHRONIC AGORAPHOBIC SUFFERERS
OUT THERE, HOPE!!!
I just wanted to write this quick little note...to show others who might tend
to believe that everything is absolutely hopeless for them...after having to
endure their personal sufferings with Agoraphobia, for what seems to be like,
quite simply, FOREVERMORE!
THE CAGE ONE JUST CAN'T SEEM TO CRAWL OUT OF?!
I urge you, please, do not believe it...Agoraphobia CAN be overcome -(as any
other phobia CAN be overcome)-. But, for some of us...it might take a week/a
month/a year/a decade/or, possibly, even longer still...
Just let the thought of, eventually, WINNING THE BATTLE, always, lead you
on...; because, just as my own case proves where I'm no longer Agoraphobic,
anymore...one should NEVER ever give up HOPE! I believed that one day I would
be able to get over it...-even after staying inside the home for over a decade
long-...and, sure enough in the end I DID! So, just keep on believing in
yourself...; and, certainly, you too will be able to overcome...; as they say,
where there's a will...there's a way!
GOOD LUCK
And, I wish you ALL...
A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
...And, also...
A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
;-)
hi Paul,
haven't seen a post from you in a while. Thanks for sharing your success, as
it will give much inspiration to others. I too am over my agoraphobia but
do still get some anticipatory anxiety here and there.
Wishing you well for college, what are you studying?
take care,
happy Christmas to you too :)
Vanessa :)
Hi Vanessa,
Been a while since I heard from you, too./LOL/You must send and tell me exactly
how it is you are getting on...
>>>

<<<
I'm studying...
>Arts(drawing/painting)
>Computers(Web Design/ECDL-European Computer Driving Licence)
>Keep fit(Tai Chi/Yoga)
-(Only, I never really went to the keep fit lessons!)-
>>>

<<<
I always have anxiety issues...in either one form or another...as I never ever
stop worrying about this, that, and, the other...
But, thank goodness...having housebound
Agoraphobia is one less thing I have to keep on worrying about non-stop!
And, so, now, I can go worry about plenty of other things non-stop, instead!
>>>
take care,
happy Christmas to you too :)
Vanessa :)

You take real good care of yourself, too!
HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!

Am doing really well. I had a minor setback about 6 weeks ago and found it
difficult to get to work. Struggled with some derealisation sensations at
work which made me try and avoid it. But I stuck with it and am now only
slightly anxious but that subsides once I get involved with my work. My
eldest son starts high school next year which amazes me as I can remember
his birth like it was yesterday ;)
My husband injured his thumb playing indoor soccer / football ;-) So I am
quite busy juggling work, anxiety and the kids but doing ok, all considered.

Wow, what an interesting group of subjects. I do a little web design but
have only attended a 2 day work-shop, so am learning as I'm going along. As
with the keep fit lessons, you don't really need to attend :) You have much
life experience with various martial arts.

A great feeling isn't it to feel free to go where you like, when you like.

Worry is ok, as long as it doesn't take over your life entirely :)

Thanks Paul, and wishing you all the very best too :)
I have missed reading your reports.
Vanessa :)
That is great news !
I stop by here, every few weeks , to see if there are any new folks .
It is good to see that you (and vanessa) have done so well. I am aso
making steps-- small ones-- that FEEL big.
geno
-(First, sorry my response has been so incredibly slow! But, I don't tend to
drop in on these notice boards quite as often as I once did before. Because, I
have a lot of studying to get on with...college/-etc.)-
However, it sure feels really good getting to hear from you, again.
In particular, I remember that special 'link'...; which I decided to go and
revisit, once more. As usual, I still remain most deeply impressed!
I've already dropped out of college twice during previous years. But, this year
at college, I decided to sign up to take some 'art' related courses...
>>>still life drawing
>>>figure drawing from life...(models are sometimes either partially clothed;
or else, are completely naked...both male/female)
>>>and, painting on china.
However, I have to admit I've most probably gone and missed far more lessons
than I ever, actually, attended(ADD-Attention Deficit DisorderI guess?!). But,
at least, I'm trying.

GOOD LUCK Geno with having the courage to take those steps...; in the end that
can only lead to SUCCESS, I'm sure! So, just keep on going...until when you are
able to reach whatever is your end goal.
Bye4now!/BEST wishes, always!/-Paul(UK/London)
MERRY CHRISTMAS
&
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
