I am 34. I have lead a pretty bad but not excessive lifestyle. I smoked 10
cigarettes a day since age of 19, cut down since 31, quit since 32. I am not
overweight and I used to do regular exercise until last year. I have always
had a 'stressed' personality and I like my meat and mayonnaise. I also used
to drink over 8 cups of filter coffee a day at work for 3 years. I enjoyed
pushing my work life to the max. I think the pains are a way of life showing
me that it's caught up with me.
One week ago I have decided to cut down my caffine, lower my cholestrol. The
pain has made me re-evaluate my life and I have tried to stay less stressed
and be more pragmatic about my workload (I am a workaholic). I have tried to
take a new perspective on life to try and not take things too seriously
since then.
I need to know a couple of things:
1) Is the blockage of the arteries a reversible process, if you lower the
cholestrol, can you remove the 'furring' up of the arteries?
2) My girlfriend who I have been with for 6 years doesn't know. I hoped to
have children, and now this calls into question how feasible the option is.
I love her and I don't know if I want her with me when I go through this. I
don't know if I should break up with her and how I should.
3) I don't believe this is a heart problem (more an artery problem), so am I
right in guessing this could affect my mind as well, if so is it sudden or
will I slowly become more 'dull'?
4) How long does the average person last in this case (max)? 5 years? 10
years?
I was a pretty ambitious person, so this is a real bummer. But question 2)
above is really worrying me at the moment. Help.
PS I live in London. UK.
thanks,

Generally speaking, no. But coronary artery disease CAD has been
reversed following the Ornish diet. Ornish diet is severely restrictive,
even to the point of being ridiculous. Lowering cholestrol is thought
to stop CAD from progressing.

You said you are 34. Anyone who gives you a number would only
be guessing, in my opinion. And I would guess that you are likely
to live only about 40 or 50 more years. (Yes, that's what I said).
Dunno who to tell?
tell your doctor. Tell him/her you are worried.
Get your cholestrol checked.

Talk to you doctor.
Everything Scotmc said is right. Also, you don't even know what kind of
problem you have. It could be muscle for example or not.

You are really jumping the gun here. And if it does turn out to be a major
problem, let her help decide what to do.

No. Except for your constant worrying about it.

Again you don't even know what this case is. But if you get care and it is a
blockage problem there is a reasonably good chance you could live a normal
life.

You need to see a Dr. a GP or a cardiologist. No one can diagnose you over the
internet.
