REVOLUTION

MUMBOJUMBO:

You conceal your identity behind some unpronounceable string of letters
and say, "I want to compare these two [newspaper] articles and argue
that Law Enforcement and the Justice System are so completely out of
control -- are operating without limits, and represent such a grave
threat to the security of the Public that the inevitable outcome of all
this OUGHT to be a violent coup by the citizenry to remove --
permanently -- the present structure of law enforcement.

"I am going so far as to suggest that the assassination of attorneys,
judges, and law enforcement officials, might after all, not be such a
bad thing as many would suppose."

This is certainly an intemperate thing for you to say, and comes close
to being dangerous. If you would go so far as to put specific names
next to your advocating of assassination, I think you could get a knock
on your door. Even if you don’t have to answer in court for saying such
things, you risk being made a pariah, as happened fifty years ago when I
was young, by being plastered with the catch phrase, "advocating the
violent overthrow of the government of the United States." You really
should not go in this direction, Mumbojumbo, unless you have absolutely
nothing to lose.

As it happens, I agree with you that the goverment(s) of the United
States are "completely out of control." At least, they are out of the
control of the people at large, mostly from their own doing. I am sure
that some people -- rich and influential elite, no doubt -- control the
government, but it is not us. The linkage between the people, who
nominally control the government at the ballot box, and the government
itself, is the media (and public education). The media tells us who to
vote for, and we blindly do. The effective control of the media, is
thus the control of the government.

Of course, the thing you advocate has a familiar word, "Revolution."
But Twentieth Century history shows that the practical implementation of
this (Cuba, China, Russia) only throws out one set of despotic elite and
replaces them with another, and the people are no better off; often they
are worse off. Furthermore, the process of getting from here to there
can get sidetracked (Lebanon) into years-long anarchy, and that is not
good for anybody. So, no matter how angry and frustrated you and I may
be at the current sorry state of our government, the alternative of
fixing it through revolution does not seem to be a rational good choice.

And, frankly, I wonder if all lesser alternatives have been tried. I
have not seen widespread public discussion of the mechanisms whereby the
problem exists. From that could come a genuine solution that would fix
the structural problem, and not merely replace one set of self-important
elitists with another. Also, I am encouraged that there are signs that
some of the people within the system understand the problem, and are
quietly working to make whatever genuine remedy is within their own
control. Yesterday, I saw that LAPD Chief Parks is proposing to include
citizen representatives on the investigation of his department, and if
implemented right, this could be a blow for good government. This
morning’s L.A. Times tells me that the current U.S. Supreme Court has
been engaged in a pattern of rendering decisions that return the power
of the government more effectively into the hands of the people. These
are indications to me that there is hope for an orderly improvement in
the current deplorable situation of "out of control" government.

I think you should explore the possibilities of these more moderate
means, and put your own personal time and effort behind implementing
some of them, before you resort to revolution.

Or, so it seems to me.

So you're saying penalize the entire LAPD for the actions of a very
small percentage of the departments sworn personnel? I'll save you the
trouble of doing the math. LAPD has approximately 6500 sworn officers.
I think the count is 12 involved in this scandal which works out to
.002% of the department.

Mike make sure you don't call the LAPD next time you're the victim of
a crime. I wouldn't want you to have to be subjected to such a large
criminal element showing up to assist you.

But since all you have done is spout off like some mindless asshole
that's how I treat you.

Sorry cretin but I graduated the LAUSD in the 60's, and I'm a
Democrat. I guess that puts me two up on you, first that I graduated,
second, that unlike you, my brain works without all the drugs.

Now crawl back under your rock.

what do you expect Mike...he's just making your point for you!
I'd let him rant..he's just making himself look foolish...hell, if I were
the LAPD, I'd make sure he didn't post on the subject...they look bad enough
as it is.
