How do you know Fux and AP were repeating Republican propaganda? What
secret information do you, an accredited journalist, have that proves
otherwise?
Mind you, I do not know the details of the case, but it seems to me that
spying on journalists is a clear violation of the First Amendment right
of freedom of the press. All Americans should be outraged, regardless of
which of the two ruling political parties committed it.
What I find odd about this case is that the government sought subpoenas
for the telephone records. This is proper procedure, of course, but
unnecessary since the telecom companies assert that they can share their
"business records" with anyone -- including the government -- without
customers' permission, without a subpoena or warrant.
Furthermore, the government already taps all telephone calls and e-mails,
so there is no reason to bother with silly things like warrants, UNLESS
Chairman Obama was trying to make a statement. He could have caught the
leakers without the reporters ever knowing how, but he deliberately told
them about it after the fact. This looks like intimidation to me.
