We are interested in hearing some reactions and advice from host families
on a couple of matters. We are doing an update for a book for families
that host exchange students and would like to know how these situations
have been handled:

1) Hosting two exchange students at the same time. We know that some of
the sponsoring organizations tend to frown on this, but does it really
cause any problems? If so, how have you handled them, and what's your
overall recommendation?

2) When your exchange student first arrives, there are zillions of things
that have to be explained. If you are religious, hold family prayers and
say mealtime blessings, how do you handle this matter with your student?
What do you explain, if anything, and when do you do it?

Thanks,

Nancy King

Well, an answer to the second question in that you communicate with your student(s) for months before they arrive. It depends on how early you sign up to host. So you can cover those things through e-mail and phone calls before the arrive.
