I get it periodically, from different (differently named anyway) spammers. The
prime offender being Mediatrec.com. I'd really like to nail
Mediatrec..assholes.
Anyway, I have found that if you contact the advertiser, not the spammer, you
can rattle a cage pretty well.
When possible, I contact the corporate offices of the advertiser, find out who
is the marketing director, and politely go for the juggler. You'd be amazed
how apologetic and helpful they can be when they hear lawsuit. I tell them to
contact the spammer and have my name removed from the list. That if I receive
any more spam from that spammer, I will sue them. Regardless of whether it is
their ad; because it will be proof that they did not honor my request and
contact the spammer. That I will sue them if "their" spammer sells or gives my
name to any other spammers. Most of these dolts don't realize that I have no
way of proving that their spammer sold my name.
Back to Columbia House. Today I talked to a woman (very snotty) in their
Consumer Affairs Office at their corporate offices in NY. NOT the customer
service offices that are listed in phone directories in Terre Haute.
They asked me to fax directly to the Consumer Affairs Office my complaints
along with copies of the spam. It seems to me that if their fax was flooded
with complaints about spam, it would really piss them off. Which would be
icing on the cake.
So, if you have received any spam from Columbia House, do it, I am. If you
have any doubts that this number is legit, call the corporate office and ask
for the fax number of the Consumer Affairs Department. If you don't own a fax,
use snail mail.
