Manually filtering spam

I use Thunderbird as my news client at the moment.

I hate the fact that there doesn't seem to be any way to remove spam
manually, and the recent surge of MI5 spam has made some of my favorite
groups cluttered.

Can you recommend any good news clients with good filtering capabilities?
