Received the following responses from various ISPs today regarding various
spam complaints:

From netaxs.com: (07/07/97) The spam you have reported was sent out by a
user of phillynet.com. Phillynet.com is an ISP customer of netaxs.com.
Phillynet has received complaints and is handling the situation (tracking
down and LARTing the luser, it would seem). Please address future
complaints to postm...@phillynet.com for spam originating from
phillynet.com. If spam reports to phillynet.com go unanswered or are
otherwise not responded to, at that time you may feel free to escalate to
us, their upstream provider. (My note: have not received any response
from phillynet yet.)

From lapis.net: (07/07/97) Thank you for the notification of this spam.
The individual who posted this message was formerly a participant of an
advertising partnership in which he was paid for traffic sent from his WWW
site to ours. Specifically prohibited in the terms of the advertising
partnership were direct email and usenet spam: all traffic was to be sent
from his WWW site to ours.

We have terminated relations with the individual in question. Further, we
have contacted two employees of his Internet Service Provider,
videotron.net, asking that the account be terminated. They have indicated
that this is an ongoing problem for this user; however, they are unwilling
to take any action besides a warning.

We apologize for this unfortunate situation. (My note: looks like
videotron.net needs a few taps of the ol' clue stick.....)

From Micro-Net: (07/06/97) Thank you for writing to the Micro-Net Abuse
Dept. An auto responder has been setup in response to the massive amount
of complaints due to the Woodside Usenet Spam. We are aware of the
situation, and have suspended this person's account.

I hereby propose that when the Smith Bill is enacted, we throw a party,
virtual and real, and drink toasts to all of the far-sighted and helpful
ISP's and their Security and Abuse staff: the first salute should go to
Afterburner because he combines strength with wit and humor ... the rest
we'll drink to as they get mentioned. (Let's plan it for a Friday or
Saturday night!)

I stand corrected! Friday AND Saturday ... from 5 PM Thursday to Noon
on Sunday, unless there's anyone left standing ...

I'll drink to that (though I may have to do it from under the table...)!
