It goes on to say, that when you (that's me, the customer) get OMS 2.0,
contact your merchant. I ordered mine as a competitive upgrade directly
from Steinberg.
When I try to use it, Cubase complains that it cannot see the Studio
through the modem port. The other apps have no problems with it. I'll
have to contact Steinberg, but I'd like to learn what others are doing
first. Has anyone used OMS 2.0 with Cubase Score 2.0? If so can you
shed some light on how you got it to work.

I also found this troubling. Not only could I not get Cubase to run, but
Steinberg-Jones charged me for new manuals, that like yours, do not
address the issue of OMS. What is the point of new manuals if they
don't address the major change in the software??
I am trying to use Cubase Audio 3.0 (Cubase Audio XT) on a Macintosh
Quadra 650 with an Opcode Studio 5LX.
The author of the Cubase manuals sent me a .pdf file that discusses using
Cubase with OMS. I do not know if it is available online.
Steinberg-Jones also mailed me a disk with an Adobe Acrobat reader so I
can view the .pdf file. The document doesn't answer all of my questions
regarding OMS, but it does help.
You will need OMS 2.0 It is available from ftp.opcode.com
Under the MIDI Setup dialog box, there is a check box for selecting inputs.
One of the choices is a "virtual controller" icon labeled "Cubase"
Although it is checked by default, it must be unchecked for Cubase to
run with OMS. As of yet, no one can tell me what this option is for!!
Wouldn't it be just great if you called up Lexicon or API and they said,
"yep, we put that knob on there, but damned if we know what it does!!"

Don't feel so bad, Sweetwater Sound, one of the largest and fastest
growing merchants of MIDI gear in the world, had no idea when I first got
my upgrade from Steinberg either. Apparently, Steinberg had not
distributed any of the documentation to their distributors prior to
telling their customers to get it from their distributors.
At least they don't call their product "Logic" :)

The first thing you should do is get that .pdf file with the elusive OMS
documentation. My problem was that "Cubase" was checked under MIDI inputs.
I'm not running at %100 yet, but I did get it to work.
PEACE OUT :)

How about it Steinberg? Can you send us a pointer where we can access
this file online. Why put us through the paces of getting the .pdf
version...and the Adobe Acrobat reader?

I bought an Opcode Studio 4 for my ever-growing MIDI-setup, assuming that
there would be no problem since Cubase was now 'fully OMS compatible'.
(I have v2.8 and a Centris 610 (68LC040))
Well, Cubase did manage to communicate via OMS, only the whole program
suddenly ran terribly slow and it seemed to loose any idea of the concept of
'timing'. In other words, it was left useless.
Fortunately S4 is able to emulate a MTP. Using it this way gives me individual
access to the multiple outputs of the S4, but I really miss the obvious
advantages of OMS.
I now hear that OMS will be integrated within the next Mac OS, so Steinberg
better get their ass moving fixing the problem. I myself have stopped counting
the number of times I've felt foolish being a Cubase user...

"Cyclophonic Miracle Sound"
I have tried it (with CAXT 3.0 on my IIvx) and it _seems_ to work, but I
would like to have that "Using Cubase with OMS" file before I start using
it regularly. Anyone, please tell us where it is.

Many thanks to Steinberg for putting the Arcobat reader and the .pdf
file of working-with-OMS instructions on the ftp site
(ftp.steinberg-us.com). After pulling them across the net last night, I
ran into one problem, probably due to my own lack of knowledge. The
.pdf file on the ftp server had the filename extension .hqx. After I
pulled it across, the .hqx extension was gone and the Arcobat reader
could not open it.
Questions:
- What does the .hqx filename extension mean?
- What ftp option should I have used in the _GET_ command: ascii,
binary, executable, Macbinary...?
- Should I do something to the .pdf file after I receive it, before
opening it from Acrobat?
Any comments welcome.
TIA
Frank
