Subject: [PC] Help beta my CPU load fix?!?!
Well,
I'm layin in bed last night touching myself...
... let me start again...
I was thinking about Cubase last night before I went to sleep, and I got
this idea. If I beta test for Steinberg, then why not try my hand at
programing for them too?

Don't get you dongle in a knot Steinberg, I didn't touch your code, I'm not
cracking your copy protection... I just decided to swap files between
different versions of Cubase to see if I got, like, a word processor or
something out of it. Well I'll be god damned if I didn't cure the CPU load
issue. Of course, if you try this for yourself, be warned... I havn't tested
it thouroughly, but so far the CPU bug is gone, the bugs from 3.6 (the ones
I checked) are gone and man, am I gonna be touching myself tonight!!!! I can
save DX effects, no more EQ bugs... I mean it's really working!!!!

What did I do?

Firstly, I got a little beer buzz going. (likely not necessary)

Then I checked any file on my 'puter pertaining to Cubase that had been
modified since 3.6 Some were bigger and had newer dates... others hadn't
changed.
Starting from 3.60r1, I saved (to a safe location) all these files: In the
Cubase program folder (program files):

Cubase.exe

Mros32.dll
Timebandit.dll

**(the Vstdll.dll was modified too, but this is the CPU killer)** (do not
add it.... don't... stay away... evil file...)

In the ASIO folder (program files):

Asiomm32.dll

Asiomm16.dll
Asiodx.dll
Asiomme.dll

In the Windows/System folder:

Mrosm16.dll

I should have grabbed the RealAudio .dll's too, but I will get those later.

Now, I reinstalled to 3.6... grabbed and overwrote these files in their
respective locations with the 3.60r1 ones I'd extracted, and boom... 3.60r1
without the killed CPU.

Now, if someone feels like trying an experiment... it seems as if we should
be able to copy the offending Vstdll.dll from the 3.6 program files folder,
install 3.60r1 and just overwrite this file with the 3.6 version. I had to
get there backwards in order to reverse engineer the problem.

Yes, this is all likely highly unrecommended... but hell, as if the 3.60r1
'pristine' version didn't bugger my 'puter enough... what harm can this do?
I mean christ, it worked!!!

Or don't try this at all, I don't care... just wanted to share.

Going to play in 3.60r1 now...

Makes you laugh though, how the f**k didn't they spot this? It just goes
to prove what a lot of people have been saying about steinbug not
testing their updates properly. Every time a bug fix is released new
bugs appear.

I bet we all can't wait to fork out more money for VST 4.0....NOT!

Doesn't work for me. Cubase doesn't start, saying: "Wrong version of
vstdll.dll" ... :(((

From the other list:

Please make sure you only use the VST DLL for your correct version.

There are only two types. The ones in the 'standard' and 'score' are the same.
VST/24 has
a version that is very slightly different.

Please don't mix the types. Use the VSTDLL.DLL from the 3.6 install of the same
version
you have.

Greetings!
I reinstalled Cubase up to V3.6, made a copy of vstdll.dll, then upgraded
to V3.6R1, replaced the .dll with the V3.6 version and Eureka!!!!!

The performance meter was back to normal, AND 3.6R1 loads everytime!!

I think the bug about high CPU usage on 'solo' is still there though.

Yeah Paul! Your right! I'm well pissed off with the way VST is going.

I'd feel pretty inadequate and sad if I was Steinberg.

while reinstalling, I tried loading a song I'd saved in 3.6R1 and it crashed
on opening, everytime!!!
- nasty! -

The eGroups group is shit to navigate, but steinberg post low level info
about cubase AND
actually admit to their mistakes! PHEW!!!

catch ya later!!
