C-3PO: But sir, nobody worries about upsetting a droid.
Han Solo: That's 'cause droids don't pull people's arms out of their sockets

Chewbacca: Grrf.

No, he's a poster from alt.fan.starwars.
Worf would definitely kick Chewie's furry ass...my reasoning: Worf has
been trained in martial arts, and is a specialist in hand to hand
combat. Chewie bitches up a storm whenever anyone tries to take his
crossbow from him. Obviously, he knows that without his weapon he is
absolutely ineffective as a fighter. He hides behind a blaster like
the sissy, oversized puppy that he is.
A better question to ask: Who would win in hand to hand combat? Luke
Skywalker or Worf? Both have extensive training using
non-blaster/phaser weapons, and both have proven themselves in battle.
But let's assume for this challenge that Skywalker cannot use force
powers, just to make the fight fair. Who is better at fighting with
their respecitve weapon?
My money is on Worf....

that's ok then :)
I still can't remember where I was going with it.
I suppose, since the moon is not in a gravitational field (let's ignore the
sun and earth) it has no actual weight.
but factor in the sun and earth and I;m sure tha tit weighs something :)
OK, OK. I am really bored and this bugs me. Just to prove how bored I
am, here's GMm/r^2. "Weight" is force exerted by 2 bodies on each other.
The mass of the moon is on the order of 10^22 kg. Relative to Earth or
the sun, it's on the order of 10^20. So either way, just because it's in
space doesn't mean it weighs little or nothing; that _perception_ can
come about because, if you are in a freefall, you will feel weightless
(no reaction forces--yet). The moon is in freefall. But, and this goes
back to the rollercoaster thread, the x and y velocities are not
"independent." As Kynes pointed out, the y-velocity is "converted" into
x-velocity. We are in freefall towards the sun, but all the velocity is
in the tangential direction, just as a rollercoaster would fall off its
loops if it were not constrained to a curving track. So no matter what,
the moon will always weigh more than Dalton.

No, weight is the result of force. The force that acts on a massive body
to produce weight is gravity.
No, gravity is an acceleration...
lol
Gravitational force is the result of that acceleration, weight is how we
perceive the force, and mass, some smooth continuous nonnegative
function over the union of Borel sets (just thought I'd toss that in for
fun, too bad I can't remember the full thing) gives us inertia, which is
resistance to motion, which is also that perception. But anyway, it
doesn't matter; weight equals ma = F. If x is position according to time
t, then dx/dt is v, dv/dt is a, m(dx/dt) = p momentum, again a way to
express resistance to changes in motion, and dp/dt is F = ma. You have
to exert that much force to overcome somethings resistance to changes in
motion and along the way, this does work, W = Fd or better yet, F dot d.
In space, no one can hear ice cream.

fantasize about Worf, who gets beat up by pregnant Bajorans, beating a

While we're at it, why don't we break both of Luke's at the same time.
It would make just as much sense as this argument.
Anyways, Luke swings lightsabre, Worf tries to block with batleth.
Lightsabre cuts through batleth, then Worf. Game over.

Chewie is also an expert at the Wookiee martial arts which involves the
"spedious removal of an opponents limbs." So in other words Worf swings

If Chewie could get his paws/hands on Worf. He wouldn't because Worf
would chop them off with his bat'leth.
Oh sorry, didn't see I was talking to a superior officer, sir.
Of course a lightsaber would. But what if they were both using
sabers, or if Luke was using a bat'leth or regular sword? And what
about hand-to-hand? Luke has show no special training in that. Worf
would break his neck in hand-to-hand. Luke does shoot a blaster alot
better than Worf, though. Must be that special training all in the
Star Wars universe recieve.

Well, I once saw a friend of mine throw a guy back six feet in a
fight. And he doesn't have this famed superman wookie strength. Worf
could probably do just as well. And many people can lift someone off
the ground effortlessly. If you're using this as an example of wookie
strength that's hilarious.
Is your friend named Worf? And of course the guy died instantly and your
friend went to jail. Right?
and your bones have to be strong enough to balance the normal force of
the earth. think before you post, this is why we have skeletons and
muscle. Otherwise we would be puddles of goo, complete with "eraction"
forces. Like slime mold, a life form that has adapted differently.
Yes I was a little off. I was jumbling things up. I was getting at how
we distribute forces. But you're no pedant.
Then Worf would slice himself in two since it's not a typical sword.
> or if Luke was using a bat'leth or regular sword?
I don't think Luke would have a problem with that.

OK, so Worf gets his hand-to-hand weird Yoga stuff, and Luke has
nothing, not even the Force? What you basically have here is Worf vs
Human, since you took away everything that made Luke a formidable
warrior.
Then again, Worf got his ass handed to him time and time again, so...

Oh, OK, so let's qualify it by saying Chewbaccs was standing upright,
with his arms out straight, gripping Lando by the neck and holding him
at least a foot off the ground. Oh, let's not forget the time he pulled
an AT-ST driver straight out of his vehicle by the scruff of his neck

Why on earth would Luke use as stupid a weapon as a batleth? It has no
reach whatsoever, which would be okay except that it is heavy.

He did it with a single hit from one fist? Wow, he should be lifting
weights in the olympics.

Would you care to show me where any normal human has thrown someone
one-handed, or lifted them with straight arms.

So in conclusion, both technologies are bullshit, but
Star Wars is more powerful BS. It doesn't matter
if it would work or not.

Actually, that was really boring. No fun. So here's the long original
reply:
Why, Darth Ewok, is that disdain I hear in your voice? Here's what I was
looking for:
"m [mass] is a measure defined over a [arbitrary] measure space B... the
measurable sets for m are usually taken to be the Borel sets of B."
The wonderful thing is, this babble, unlike your beloved Treknospeak,
has meaning, and knowing a litle math or science can vastly improve your
ability to generate realistic technobabble. Unlike you, I have the shit
to back up my farts. Also unlike you, I can act on the definition of a
"body" as a "smooth 3-dimensional manifold homeomomorphic to the closure
of a connected open subset of Euclidean pointwise 3-space." It's only
babble if you can't act on it. I know what "subspace" and "hyperspace"
really mean too, does that mean I made them up? Just because you don't
get it doesn't mean I don't. I also brought up Borel sets solely for
levity, something which clearly escaped your notice. I mentioned it
precisely because it's obfuscatory and obscure. For someone who creams
their jeans every time Geordi says "phase," you sure are drerogatory.
Maybe if your sphere of awareness didn't have everywhere-negative
curvature of radius, you might be a little more effective as a human
being.
In closing, http://www.mathlab.mtu.edu/~mdoughy/stfu.jpg
Go read Shadows of the Empire and then come back and tel me about how Luke
has no special training that will enable him to fight hand to hand.
Specifically read the parts where he outraces a HRD to the point that high
speed blade slices look like they will take hours to complete then come back
and tell me again how Worf, who's about as slow as a bus in a traffic jam,
will be able to beat Luke when the later has speed, Force-assited power, and
precognition.

There's a difference between throw which involves two hands and utilizes
most of the body's lower and upper body strength and backhanding which has
only the rotational strength of the waist and arm strength behind it, in
other words there is a HUGE difference between throwing someone and
backhanding them.

Hehehehehehehe.
He's obviously forgetting that in a fight the impetus for the throw would
have come from the guy getting thrown, the thrower only providing impulse
and direction.

Maybe not in two, but he would cut himself all over trying to do those
twirls he is so fond of with his Bat'leth. Possibly even removing his leg or
arm in the process.

Why the fuck would he use a Bat'leth, as a close-in defence weapon it has
it's good points but as an offensive weapon you would have to have a supine
and defenceless enemy to allow you to use it properly.

Worf, the slo-mo fighter :-). Seriouly, watch his fighting and notice not
only howmuch he telegraphs everything, but he implements his attacks so
slowly it's laughable. Can anyone cite an example of him being a competant
combatant (hand-to-hand)?
>
> Then again, Worf got his ass handed to him time and time again, so...
He watched too many John Woo films, thought fighting in slow motion looked
cool and didn't realise it's a film effect. He would go to Ten-Forward and
bitch into his beer that "the other guy wasn't fighting fair, they moved all
fast and shit!"

I've thrown 16 stone squaddies around before.... of course *they* provided
all the energy I just helped them on their way. On FIBUA exercises when I
have the adrenelin pumping through me I've thrown Ammo boxes filled with
concrete around like lego bricks, but in the clean up afterwards I could
barely lift them. Chewie has that strength as a baseline and it would just
go up from there.

All Klingons attack very slowly. Look at Torres when the Viidians
pulled her Klingon half out. She spent a noticeable amount of time
thinking about where to hit the guy next.

If you're happy and you know it, clunk your chains.
True. But Worf with a Bat'leth is like a glacier moving uphill.

Was the guy being thrown a dwarf?

It can be done, but you really need the person being thrown to provide a
shitload of energy, be off-balance and preferably throwing a haymaker punch.
Then you can spin him round (like when you give a child an 'Aeroplane' ride,
except your only holding one arm not an arm and a leg), one and a half
twists and release, he'll go about 4-6 ft and land very badly.... finish by
jumping on his head :-). Of course on Bespin Chewie lifted and threw a
Stormtrooper by just extending his arm and the trooper flew back about 6-8ft
(against his original direction of travel), *very* different.

Do you mind if I share a story with you? Keep in mind that I have done
poorly in any fight training I've ever received, and was beat up a lot
as a yungun. Here's my story:
OK, so I stayed in a homeless shelter called the Povarello
("little fat one" I think, after Francis of Assisssi) while I waited to
join university. After that, I moved into a cheap place (Spruce rooms) a
block or so away. One morning, I went to the Pov to get coffee. What
they do is have coffee and donuts at 6:30 AM before they kick everybody
out for the day so they can clean and cook the breadline meals. You're
supposed to look for work and there are all these day labor places so
you can make a quick buck and hopefully move out of the Pov. So there I
was, there I was... IN... the CONGO... I went and got coffee, which is
allowed if
you're homeless even if you don't live there. But I went in 5 minutes
early, and I guess Patrick, the Duty Dick, didn't like that. So he came
after me and actually pushed me! It spilled my coffee and pissed me off
so I hit him in the head with the coffee
cup and popped him in the mouth. then somebody put me in a sleeper hold
and held me for the cops, who were a block away. they jailed me for a
day, and my finger was swollen and bleeding from 2 gashes from the cup
(but Patrick had a huge cut on his head, yay! the dick), and they didn't
let me use the phone until that night and I got bailed out. Then I went
to see the judge later and he more
or less laughed at me and fined me $200.
another time, I was in the cafeteria in the Pov. It was 6 AM and I was
just sitting there, zoning out over my cofee. I hadn't even laced up my
Red Wings yet, I was just waking up. There was this guy Frank, who was a
macho loudmouth. I was kind of scared of him because he has this taught
muscular physique, like he could be in a movie except he was just an
ugly homeless guy. Like Fight Club--you know what I mean? He was like
Lou Diamond Philips or something. ANYWAY, I had this friend there named
Carole. She was this older New Yorker, and she was arguing with these
two lesbians because they were fucking in the open in the women's
berthing the night before. Frank started yelling at her, "you're a
BITCH!" and she was kind of shocked and she yelled back, and he threw
his hot coffee in her face. All I remember then is my boots going "STOMP
STOMP STOMP" on the tile as I jerked awake and charged him
automatically. This was a scary strong guy too. I knocked him over a
table and people went flying out of the way, and while I was on top of
him I punched him in the eye. He got up and started running away, and I
was knocking chairs out of my way trying to get after him, then someone
yelled "Look out Matt!" and I felt hands grabbing me from behind. I
whirled around hit the guy behind me in the mouth 4 times before I
realized it was Roger, the duty guy for that day. I went "Oh Roger! Shit
shit sorry" and he kicked me out. He had been in Spec Forces but I guess
they never taught him how not to break up fights. It turned out that
when I hit Frank, it was on the bony part of his eyebrow and it bled
like hell into his eye, and the cops came and asked if I was wearing any
rings, but they didn't arrest me because Frank had been an
asshole.
anyway, I felt like such a goddamn stud after that, lol. A feeling I
hadn't had, since...
LOL I sense he is a Warsie as well...
