Greetings,

For everyone interested, there's a new ST-themed version of 'Geek
Code' being passed around. If you don't know what Geek Code is, it's
a series of abbreviations and symbols which, in this case, let others
know what
your favorite ST characters are, your level of fandom, etc.

I copied and pasted the Star Trek Geek Code V.1 guide to this post,
but it's also available as a downloadable text file at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/star-trek-one/, for anyone who wants to
use it in their signature. :-)

----------------------------------------------------------------
INTRO TO STAR TREK GEEK CODE

The 'Star Trek Geek Code' is for use in your signature file at the end
of your posts and emails. It lets others know how much of a ST fan
you are, what your favorite series is, who your favorite characters
are, which ones you totally hate, and such.

For example, someone's signature might look like this if using the
Star Trek Geek Code:

STGC.1 t+++ awfc $+++ ca++ fsDS9105 lsENT sisk+++> spck++@
jane+& arch-- m1971

It's not as complicated as it looks!

Below I'll explain how to use the Star Trek version of Geek Code,
which is much simpler than regular geek code, and what all of the
symbols and abbreivations mean. Soon you'll be geek coding in no
time!

STAR TREK GEEK CODE V.1
-------------------------

THE CODE

You start the code with 'STGC1.' The letters stand for Star Trek Geek
Code, and the 1 at the end tells you which version it is. Make sure
you seperate each segment of code with one or two spaces.

LEVEL OF FANDOM

The second part of the code identifies your level of fandom. (an
excerpt from the original geek code)

t--- ST sucks big time! It has no redeeming qualities at all,
definitely the worst show ever.

t-- ST is just another lame Space Opera with bad acting and cheesy
sets.

t- Maybe it's just me, but what's the big deal with this show
anyway? Perhaps I'm just missing something.

t It's okay / No particular feelings about it.

t+ ST is a pretty good show. I've seen quite a few episodes and
would like to see more.

t++ It's my favorite show. I tape all the episodes, I can quote
scenes verbatim...but I'm not one of those convention nuts.

t+++ I'm one of those convention nuts. Star Trek is more than a
show, it's a religion! Long live the Great Bird!

ST-RELATED ACTIVITIES

This section of the code deals with your ST-related activities. For
example, do you have a website devoted to ST? Do you write fan
fiction? Do you like to dress up in elaborate character costumes?

Begin the abbreviation with an "a" and follow with:

W -I have a ST website.
B -I host a ST message board/newsgroup/chatroom.
F -I write ST fan-fiction
A -I create fan art/graphics
R -I write reviews for ST episodes, movies, books, etc.
C -I frequently dress up in costumes/wear ST uniforms

MERCHANDISE EXPENDITURES

Spend much money on ST related Products? That's the next part of the
code.

$ - $0-50
$+ - $50-200
$++ - $200-1000
$+++ - $1000-5000
$++++ - over $5000!

So far, your STGC should look something like this:

STGC1 t++ aWAC $+++

CONVENTION ATTENDANCE

Next, use one of the following to describe your ST/SciFi convention
attendance:

CA-- I can't stand those freakshows!
CA- Never been to one, don't plan on it.
CA Never attended/attended once, would like to attend in the
future.
CA+ I attend the conventions as often as I can, they're a total
blast!
CA++ Convention-going is my life, I'd travel across the country to
attend a good convention!

YOUR FAVORITE / LEAST FAVORITE SERIES

To list your favorite ST series, begin with 'fs' and then:

TOS -The Original Series
TNG -The Next Generation
DS9 -Deep Space 9
Voy -Voyager
ENT -Enterprise

You can also list your least favorite series by entering 'ls' followed
by the code for the series.

YOUR FAVORITE EPISODE:

This part of the code is an addition to the previous code. After you
enter your favorite series, put the production number for your
favorite episode directly after it (optional).
Example:

fsTNG129

FAVORITE / LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTERS

This next part is where you get to list your favorite characters, the
ones you hate, the ones you think are sexy, etc.

You simply put the abbreviation for the character (abbvs. listed at
the bottom of this document), followed by any of the following symbols
(use as many as necessary):

--- Cannot stand this character. Can't even watch episodes that
involve this character.
-- Don't like the character.
- This character deserves less screentime.
+ Pretty good character.
++ I love this character.
+++ I worship this character. I plan to name my first born after
this character.

* I behave like this character.
> I aspire to behave like this character.
@ People tell me that I look like this character.
% I do a great impersonation of this character.
! I'm totally in love with this character.

Example: spck++* kirk+++>@

PERSONAL INFO

For this last segment of code, you can add your personal info like
gender and age. Enter either
F or M for male or female, followed by the year you were born.
Example:

F1981

Now that your finished, your code should look kinda like this:

STGC1 t++ aWAC $++ ca+ fsTNG220 lsDs9 kirk+++! spck++> chkv+& kpul--
F1981

That's all there is to it!
