Yeah they do, there is a direct refernece to this in The Empire Strikes
Back.

No they dont, they have something better, that is called Hyperdrive.

yes..very close distances

No, they have hyperdrive. It's faster.

No, they have a bigass moon-sized space station that can pop planets like boils.

So, what's it like to live without a functioning brain?

Big flippin' deal. Starfleet has Transwarp technology. That's sixteen
times more powerful and effective.

No, very far distances. Phasers = concentrated light beams, light can
travel wherever it damn well wants to, distance not being a factor.

Empire suks.

Maybe because they didn't need a plot device?

In your dreams, shit-for-brains. Hyperdrive allows travel across the SW
galaxy in a matter of days, Trek Transwarp would still require months at
the very least.

Light still has a speed, dipshit. And phasers are not "concentrated
light beams", if they were YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SEE THEM IN SPACE.
Moron.

In practically every Trek battle scene (With some exceptions, like "The Wounded"), battle occurs within a few dozen kilometers.

Well, I happen to agree, but you're still a fucking idiot, and you can't
even spell "sucks" right. People who use "l33t speak" are smarter than
you, neanderthal. Now go back to the pits of hell where you came from
and leave the intelligent world alone.

No no no no no!!! Stuart, you're doing it all wrong!

You are dealing with stupid, illiterate, and retarded wrestling fans.
They don't understand fancy terminology like "concession" and
"evidence". You have to speak to them in terms they will understand.
Terms like "idiot", "loser", "shithead", "dipshit", "cocksucker",
"shit-for-brains", "dickless", and my personal favorite, "fucking piece
of shit who masturbates at online porn of wrestling's best-looking
female sluts but has trouble finding his itty bitty dick". In other
words, instead of using the typical ASVS anti-troll tactic of wit and
sarcasm for precision attacks, bash them a few times in the head with a
club of logic. Brute force worked for the Russians against the Germans,
it'll work for you in this case as well.

Let's give the old boy credit; He might be from Spacebattles, but he has a
sense of humour that is sufficiently base enough and yet sufficiently
intelligent enough to function at ASVS.

Oh, they just didn't have a chance to use it in the films. They used it
in HTTE, DFR, TLC, SOTP...etc

Starfleet does not have a working transwarp device. There are two types
of transwarp, one is the normal type, more like warp drive or hyperdrive
in usage, and is slower (refer to other posts for the difference). The
second type is the conduit type which IS faster than hyperdrive, but
conceptually is more equivalent to the hypergates og the Gree Enclave in
SW or even a wormhole.

LOL!

1)In space, ANY object can travel whether it wants to, distance not
being a factor.

2)Any person with an iota of scientific knowledge would know that the
phaser is NOT a concentrated light beam. You can easily see that orange
particle stream coming out, and you don't see a light beam in space
unless the photons happen to be striking you (as in, you DON'T see it
from the side), though you CAN see glowing plasma or particles from
stray photons leaking from the sides of the beam. Not to mention that
light does not go as slow as visually observable phaser beam.

3)Anybody can SEE the VISUAL evidence for themselves and see how close
in ST ships fight.
----

Now that this silliness is past, let's see a few things the EMPIRE has
that the FEDERATION doesn't...

Empire=armored vehicles
Starfleet=doesn't

Empire=artillery
Starfleet=doesn't

Empire=body armor on regular units
Starfleet=none (technically, they used body armor ONCE in ST:VI)

Empire=combined arms tactics
Starfleet=doesn't

Empire=Death Star technology
Starfleet=doesn't

empire=multi-km long ships
Starfleet=doesn't

Gee, that must mean the Empire MUST win against the Federation
(actually, that is true, but this is really crappy logic to prove it
with, won't everyone agree with the latter part?) :)

Dammit, am I going to have to start giving classes on arguing with
completely and utterly stupid barbarian wrestling fans?

The words you used, like "evidence", "visual", "photons", and "plasma"
are too complex for these people. You have to speak in terms they'll
understand! "Shit-for-brains", "cocksucker", "fucking idiot", etc.

Oh,I agree with that. They left that inefficient and slow technology behind, if
they ever had it at all. In TPM, Darth Maul traveled from Coruscant, near the

It took a Borg cube 6 months to make it from Borg space in the Delta quadrant
to Wolf 359 in the Alpha Quadrant. An ISD, traveling at 1E7c, 127 LY per hour,
according to Dark Force Rising, could do that in a week.

Actualy only becasue legaly the UFP can't do it. Not that they don't bend
the rules when they need too. Recall the self replicating mine field, EACH
of the tiny things had its own bloody cloak. If anything SF is more advanced
in that area, they legaly just can't use it (not that the romulans were
issuing an offical complaint given their wish to let the Dominion and UFP
fight it out)

Well I just had to post my 2 cents, after all its just enjoyable to screw
with the uneducated.

Your ability to gather and organize data from the wealth of sources
representing the totality of Star Trek and Star Wars canon used to reach
this conclusion is impressive at the least and demands immediate attention
from the highest authorities so that they might realize that George Lucas
was wrong when Darth Maul got a cloaking device.

>
> Starfleet = warp drive
> Empire = doesn't

Which just begs the question are you Dennis Leary? Because he's about the
only person I could think of who would argue for the use of an engine which
is:
1) Slower
2) Strategically and Tactically stupid (how hard is it to detect a ship at
warp?)
3) Destroying the fabric of space-time.

> Starfleet = phasers, able to shoot from distances
> Empire = doesn't

Once again I aplaud your ability to collect data to the point of noting that
every major engagement of ST forces, excepting The Wounded, has occured at a
range of under a dozen kilometers while the battle of Endor occurred at
ovwer 100km plus which would seem to indicate a rather disparate situation
as to the tactical effectiveness of weapons. in other words where's the
beef...I mean data? Besides crammed up your ass by the donkey's cock I mean.

Whatever a phaser is, it CAN'T be light. Light doesn't move that slow,

Nah, you see, we don't need our parents to help us along. You, on the other hand, are much different. You should go to your mommy now so she can change your diaper.

The Empire does have cloaking devices.

Hyperdrive is much faster

Starfleet could never hope to deal with the Imperial Starfleet, there
numbers are too great, and the speed advantage is also too great. The
only thing Starfleet can do is make it too costly for the Empire to
remain in the galaxy, thus they would have to start there are rebel
alliance, and wage a guerilla war.

Have you read Wong's latest update at StarDestroyer.net ? It discusses this
possibility.

yes, but much more dangerous, less accurate, also it takes you outside of
normal space where scanners and what not do not work. Federation ships are
slower, but they would have hyperdrive available to them within like three
days of a conflict with the empire.

The weapon advantages alone would keep the federation going in this war.
Thats not even taking their massive shielding into account. Or taking the
new Voyager technology into account either.

I think the word you are fumbling for is "proove"

They have lifted alien technology quite a few times. they managed to get
the experimental jem'hadar ship, the breen weapon. And that was just the
DS9 crew. i imagine with a mildly competant crew they could do more. Heck
with Voyager they would probably have chewie working in engineering.

After the phasers drill their way through a star destroyer or 50 they would
send a survey team over grab the technology and voila.

Well, the one time lasers were mentioned in Star Trek TNG Worf nearly fell
off of his little perch laughing at them. Seems the shields they use to
keep matter and radiation from piercing the hull are strong enough to deal
with lasers. Also since after Voyager the Federation would have those nifty
batmobile like shields that the borg couldnt drill through available fleet
wide. The shields should be more than adequate.

Prerequisite for this is that the phasers drill through a star destroyer.

Assuming distribution of a system without any idea of the costs/material
requirements is idiotic. More information is needed before such a claim

Insufficient proof. Provide proof that:
1. Borg weapons are equal to or more powerful than an ISDs TLs.
2. The Borg were completely unable to pierce these shields.
3. These shields were distributed to the fleet.

Star destroyers have little or no shielding compared to a federation ship.
It would be the equvalent of the phasers hitting base metal. Which we have
seen in the past totally disintigrates on contact.

And they are called lasers for what reason?

laser n : Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation; produces
an intense monochromatic beam of coherent light

turbo-

Turbine: turbocharger.
Driven by a turbine: turbojet.

How so? Lasers have no effect on Federation ships. The shields can (and
have been) configured to fly through the corona of a star.

Also after the Dominion war the electrical systems of Starfleet ships are
impervious to attacks that would do that.

They would be. If a ship in the middle of nowhere can slap these shields
togeather in a few days, the shipyards could have them as standard equipment
in a month. Fact of the matter is they are too valuable not to have.

Okay all of the above examples involve technology that encompasses the same
degree of scientific knowledge, it doesn't require a whole new field of
learning. Additionally in over a hundred years of trying to get transwarp to
work they haven't really been able to and even when 7o9 gave up all her Borg
knowledge Voyager was unable to truly control transwapr which obviously
holds great promise for a new drive system based on a completely different
set of principles AND requiring sensor technology light years beyond what
the Federation has.

> After the phasers drill their way through a star destroyer or 50 they

This MIGHT happen if:
1) The ISD was abandoned with no crew
2) The reactor was missing
3) They had already stripped all of the armor
4) Internal bulkheads had been removed
5) The self-destruct was gone
6) The hyperdrive was disabled
7) The Feds could even find it.

In other words it ain't gonna happen. While one of the seven might occur
having two of them would be so ludicrous that it doesn't even deserve
mention.

Since of course you have provided firepower calculations? Oh wait that's
right you haven't even bothered trying to adress what happens to said
batmobile armor when its hit by hundreds of beams able to vaporize a 40m
Ni-Fe asteroid in a quarter second while being hammered with dozens of guns
mounted for exponentially more firepower each shot.

As to lasers the SW weaponry is Blaster technolgy, yes even Turbolasers
since turbocharging something involves introducing high energy gas,
otherwise we would be unable to view the bolts from any direction other than
straight on. Anyway go read up on the Outrageous Okana fallacy elsewhere
before I mention how the Lysians rocked the E-D with a 5.2 (or was it 5.1)
MJ laser.

You seem to be unable to compare numbers. ISD shields range from 1E20J
over thirty minutes up. GCS shields die at around 1E17J and less.

Right. So here:
Star
A celestial body.

Destroyer:
Thing that destroys.

There a Star Destroyer destroys stars.

Of course, you can simply look at the obvious evidence for why it isn't
a laser. Such minor things as being visible from the side in a vacuum
and travelling slower than light for instance.

Except of course for the lasers the Lysian drones use, which happen to
be only 1.2MJ and are capable of throwing around the ship. Heck. If
that's what a 1.2MJ weapon is capable of, I'd hate to have to clean up
after the pasty remains of the crew when they are hit by a weapon
several million times more powerful.

A Borg cube cannot withstand more than two broadsides from an ISD. This
has been proven by Scorpion, and shown more explicitly by First Contact.

Not really. They were useless against the Klingon warships.

Prove it. It was technology brought from 20 years in the future and
adapted to fit a specific ship. There is no reason whatsoever to assume
that it could be mass-produced.

And yet, not a single ship other than Voyager has them.

Absolutely ridiculous claim. An ISD is capable of withstanding, at a
minimum, half an hour of fire from a comparable vessel. At a minimum,
this would require it to absorb some 50+ gigatons of energy. (ISD broaside
rated conservatively at 30 MT/s) This is substantially more than any ST ship
has ever survived.

Colloquialism perhaps? Maybe because lasers are employed to

And said beam is invisible from the side in vacuum. Given that turbolaser
bolts are visible from the side in vacuum, they are obviously not lasers.

Incorrect. Lasers of the power level employed in The
Outrageous Okona have no effect on Fed ships. To
extend this to indicate a complete immunity to lasers
of any power level is an act of extreme idiocy.

With severe shield degradation experienced over time. Odd,
EM radiation degraded their shield, which, according to you,
cannot happen.

And you failed to provide proof that the borg could not pierce these shields.
No, I did not watch the finale. I deliberately avoid watching voyager, as it
is one of the worst shows of all time.

why would Starfleet WANT hyperdrives? from anything I read it's much slower
than a warp drive anyway, Sensors do not work while traveling in the
hyperdrive, you hvae to sit and calculate each jump. A Star fleet ship is
MUCH faster and more nimble at sublight velocities. there is no evidence to
support your claim that the turbolasers come even close to a Phaser. for one
thing, the turbolaser fires in bursts, a sustained phaser would be much more
effective against even comperable shielding. the turbolasers seen to hav
only rudimentary guidance computers. the Starfleet tracking and gudance
systems are far superior in reaction and abilities to track.

Really? Explain how any of your examples show the kind of disparity evident
between warp and hyperdrive before we even get into all the neccessary
subsidiary technologies.Additionally in over a hundred years of trying to

get transwarp to work they haven't really been able to and even when 7o9
gave up all her Borg knowledge Voyager was unable to truly control transwapr
which obviously holds great promise for a new drive system based on a
completely different
set of principles AND requiring sensor technology light years beyond what
the Federation has.

Really? So then of course you watched all the ST movies where repeated
blasts of phases did little more than score the hull of the E-nil which has
tiny little bulkheads in comparison to an ISD which has several metres of
high strength alloy reinforced with neutronium (which apparenltly ST weapons
can't penetarte so in other words you lose we win period). Additionally
could you perhaps explain to me how ST ships have better shielding when a
1.2MJ laser can penetrate when fired by the Lysians, or how a 400GW beam
basically toasted the system while ISDs can last 30 plus minutes of comabt
where the lightest ship-ship weapons on any combat starship are rated at
greater than 1500 TW?

For the same reason that you "dial" a phone despite the fact that touch tone
has almost completely replaced rotary dials. Also for the same reason that
they are called rifles despite the fact that rifling is a process applied to
a projectile weapon barrel in order to induce spin. The same reason why.. oh
well I think you get the picture.

> laser n : Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation;

From Merriam-Webster

Main Entry: la·ser
Pronunciation: 'lA-z&r
Function: noun
Usage: often attributive
Etymology: light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation
Date: 1960
: a device that utilizes the natural oscillations of atoms or molecules
between energy levels for generating coherent electromagnetic radiation
usually in the ultraviolet, visible, or infrared regions of the spectrum

If you want to define something then at least be precise or lable your
definition as a working one.

> turbo-
> pref.
> Turbine: turbocharger.
> Driven by a turbine: turbojet.

Strangely enough look at this:

Main Entry: tur·bo·charg·er
Pronunciation: -"chär-j&r
Function: noun
Date: 1934
: a centrifugal blower driven by exhaust gas turbines and used to
supercharge an engine

So a turbocharger uses gases to supercharge hmmmm... Well lets look at
turbine

Main Entry: tur·bine
Pronunciation: 't&r-b&n, -"bIn
Function: noun
Etymology: French, from Latin turbin-, turbo top, whirlwind, whirl, from
turba confusion -- more at TURBID
Date: 1842
: a rotary engine actuated by the reaction or impulse or both of a current
of fluid (as water, steam, or air) subject to pressure and usually made with
a series of curved vanes on a central rotating spindle

So a turbine is an engine actuated by fluid motion does this apply to TLs?
Nope so we're left with the turbolaser etymology based off of turbocharging
which involves gases and supercharging. This is before I even get into the
SWVD definiton of what a TL/Blaster is.

Oh yeah and by definiton a laser beam is invisible, even in the visible
spectrum, unless is is vide head on. TL beams are visible cross-wise which
garuntees them not being a laser.

Yet they were going to fail in a matter of hours while the actual power flux
was LESS than that of a Light Turbolaser. Also is lasers have no effect how
were Lysian drones able to pierce the Fed's shields with 1.2 MJ lasers?

> Also after the Dominion war the electrical systems of Starfleet ships are

You mean the plasma conduits that have nothing resembling a fuse? A sinlge
Ion Cannon blast, oh yeah charged particles like electrons screw ST ship's
all to hell (ref Voyager), would explode every freakin console killing half
the crew.

Go look at "Scorpion" and measure the amount of energy absorbed by each cube
then compare it to the firepower of an ISD-I which mounts more than a
hundred LTLs with firepower in excess of 1500TW.

Not to the Klingons apparently.

You base this definitvely on what evidence? Slapstick solutions work on the
ships they do because of the ship in question. There is HARDLY a garuntee
that the designe could have been modified for other vessels nor is there any
proof that it COULD be adapted to other designs.

Turbolasers != lasers.

Why? Do you need to preserve the dilusion that something in this universe might

But all races in ST have approximately the same tech level. Do you honestly
think that someone from the 1700's would be able to understand the
technology we use today?

They are nonetheless not lasers. Lasers are not visible from the side, do
not move slower than light, and do not have their beams explode

Proof that they were could withstand hits that are greater than the power
generation capabilities of the sheild ship?

The generator was brought with Lameway. Proof that they could duplicate an
object several decades in advance of their tech level?
