The entire thread consists of a debate that is solely made up of which
side can create the best looking fleet.
Yes, but cool pics do not a victory make.
Who cares, they still look cool, which is generally what pics are supposed to
look like, hence it being a positive thing.
How is it a debate? And at which point do they call it a debate?
The forum is called "vs. debates", the thread title is "I regret to
inform you that the Empire is TOAST!". His argument consists of a
rather poorly rendered picture.
Just a question here:
"With the Shivans, we had finally met our match. We thought we held them in
Capella, but the explosion of the star opened up a gateway into their space
and thousands of warships poured into the system. They used an uncharted
jumpnode to invade the Sol system. First they layed waste to out cities with
their Hellion-class assault platforms. Then they invaded, slaughtering
billions. The few hundred thousands who survived were killed when they
destroyed Sol. Now the last remenents of the Human Race roam the Galaxy,
searching for a new home...."
This sounds alot like the Dregg from Titan A.E.

I could just as easily point out the current STGOD thread (Which is
mind-numbingly boring right now.) as the reason ASVSers have the
reputation we do. However, I don't see any reason to make that argument
myself.

I'll make it for you:
The current STGOD is piss-boring. Due to the pussified rules about the
Collective being exempted from participation (oh, until Boydie decides to stop
sulking and come back to the group, of course) and the fact that one of the most
tired plot devices in NG history is being rehashed -- AGAIN -- this STGOD is the
worst ever.
Here're the facts:
1. STGODs are fun because they involve high emotion levels for everyone, which
only comes from dueling with a human foe. Typing "And then I killed TOWNMNBS
again! HEE HEE HEE! orgasm" does not elicit feelings of victory.
2. Just because Boyd is a gigantic weiner doesn't mean unrealistic plot devices
should be concocted to spare his Dorkpire. Further, if you're going to make
rules like that, then ban his participation.
3. Stop fucking talking about Tim Jones. Jesus. He's gone. He's never coming
back. If we keep talking about him, we grant him victory over our minds. The
best way to win is to forget he ever existed.
4. I'll say it again: Boyd, you are a HUGE pussy.

forgiven just on the basis of that one word. I can't explain humor,

Completely disagree on all points, except number one (But it only
applies to one post). While this isn't the best STGOD it isn't the
worst possible. The problems aren't what you list though what they
are is:
1) Too many participants. This by itself isn't bad, what is bad is
that many don't give a flying fuck what the others are doing. So
they ignore continuity and just do what they want.
2) Too many damn hero's. Everyone wants to be the guy who wins the
war, just write your little section and it comes out better.
3) The whole FAQ thing. It's a tired worn out plot device, it was
much better before that got interjected into the mix. That's why I'm
not going to get involved in that part.
4) Not enough preparation. We should have spent some time and wrote
clear guidelines on what the goal is and what's what.
Now I'll just go over your point about TJ.
1) It's a joke.
2) We invented an enemy, without Boyd we didn't have a "bad guy" so
we made one. TJ is just a name nothing more.
3) Chill
4)
About Boyd.
1) All we're doing is ignoring the Collective.
2) I covered it early on. I said they'd hunkered down and were
fighting a civil war.
3) My character want to attack, but doesn't have to force to do so.
4) Shut up.
5) Now that Boyd is participating the Collective is obviously no
longer off limits, but you have compensate for what earlier posts
said about it (except Chris saying they disappeared, since that's
ridiculous and goes against continuity.)

I would say that the problems *are* what I list, primarily #1. Restated, it's
this. Everyone wanted to have another STGOD but without any problems this time.
So someone gets the idea: "Hey! Let's just invent an enemy!"
Invented enemies lack the intelligence of human enemies. What makes a TGOD fun
is the OTHER PERSON. It's not an excercise in story writing, for god's sake.
It's a way to kick the shit out of the other guy in as inventive a way as you
can imagine. Don't believe me? Go read some of the really old-school ones,
before they had names.
This "let's-please-everyone" stance is boring. All it allows for is everyone to
showcase their plot devices. It reminds me of those alt.tv.startrek.voyager
dorks, patting each other on the back any time any of them farted:
"And then *I* invaded the troll homeworld with *my* giant fleet!"
"Ha, you are a wise one! And then *I* landed a million troops on the troll
homeworld and killed the troll man king with my bizap ray!"
"And then *I* used my newfound ninja skills to kill a million trolls in a
second!"
>About Boyd.
>1) All we're doing is ignoring the Collective.
Which is unrealistic and stupid. Boyd shouldn't be granted protectorate status
just because he needed to spend time being reassured by his mother how handsome
he was. That's dumb.

Yeah, that's the best part about TGODing, but I decided to join in
something a little bit different. I was considering controlling both the
Trolls and the CIN to see what would happen. Yeah, it's not as fun as
fighting against a human opponent, but still quite interesting
nevertheless.

Would you like it if we brought in Kynes and had him permanently killed in

Agreed on this point. Sheppard had a good idea and I was looking forward to
having a nice little one on one with him, the way we used to do things, but
someone's gone and got him back. Actually, that doesn't mean I have to stop.

If you feel you need a victory over him, then I think he's won. Killing Tim
is a tradition that entertains everyone. Except you apparently. And maybe

I must admit I laughed, and laughed hard, but not until I read this post and
did start thinking. Normally I just ignore the insults or occasionally throw
one back. I forgive him though. Hear that Kynes? I love you! Doesn't I like
you though. If you come within 100km of me, I'll hunt you down and shoot you
like a ferret, or some other low life rodent type scum. Probably by throwing
knives at you. Family tradition. Dad skewers mice with knives. I'm just
following in his footsteps.

I have no intention of stopping you. If leaving is what'll make you happy

decide that the some people are acting like asses and making debate

And where exactly do you think I'm trying to go in this group? What respect
I have from people is down to who I am, how I have acted in the past and how
they view such actions. Some people such as Dalton, Rog, Bjorn and Sheppard,
I get along well with. Others such as you and Wayne, I don't. I seriously
doubt that me going to Oxford would change any of that. If it did, I would
be concerned for the person whose opinion it sways.

I've already said that I'm not getting involved in debates with people who

That should have said 'here', not 'where'. Typo.

No, I"m currently finishing my A-Levels in a grammar school and will be off
to university next year. College is for vocational courses which are
somewhere below a degree and many offer A-levels to people who dropped out
of school when they were 16, rather than continuing until they were 18. Some
schools however do not provide facilities for teaching A-Levels, so in some
cases, students have no choice but to go to college.

No. Read what I said. Now point out where I stated what everyone's opinion
was. Come on. I'm waiting. Can't? Any idea why? What's that? Yes, well done!

That's nice. Did I make any claims to the contrary? Don't believe so. I
merely said that you shouldn't expect the newsgroup, by which I meant the
denizens of ASVS as opposed to just people in this thread, to accept and
conform to your opinions.
> I will add parenthetical statements to help you figure out who's who:

Now Kynes, you're getting to an age where people will start to consider you
an adult. Can't we leave such childish insults/attempts at humour behind?

I thought it pretty obvious, but I'll explain it anyway. I was referring to
your request that I 'make a statement on [my] own and stand by it' and
saying that 'I generally do,' by which I meant that I generally do make
statements of my own and stand by them.
Is that any clearer?

I'm quite secure in myself that I donšt feel a need to model myself after
someone.

Steal your insults? I don't recall doing that. In fact the bit you snipped
(funny how you always seem to do that in order to give you an excuse to
attack someone) showed that I wasn't insulting you, but saying we really
don't know what's going on in your life. You could be lashing out at people
because something is wrong at home. Didn't want people to think you were
pure venom.
> How about next you tell me, in your own muted, dorkish way, to "eat poop?"
Why bother with saying something like that to me? Calling me a dork isn't
going to have any effect on me. It's the ASVS equivalent of giving someone a
bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates, compared to some of the things
said here.
> And it's "soothe," by the way.
I'm quite aware of that. Sadly I'm not as good a typist as I would like and

Awfully cynical aren't you? How can I lose debates I'm not going to be
participating in? You seem to have trouble accepting the truth from people?
Why do you think that I am lying? Do you expect such behaviour to be normal?

Oh look, avoiding the point again. Originally I thought it was deliberate,
but maybe I did overestimate your intelligence. So which is it Kynes?
Incomprehensible moron, or lying little strawman-maker?
If I was trying to make an argument that it was an amazingly good

Boyd, your saying that I don't have much luck with girls isn't just absurd, it's
stupid. Either you actually believe that I have trouble with women (in which
case you're going to have to argue down a lot of counter-evidence) or you're

I'm not even at home. I'm at university 1000 miles from my home. It could be

I don't remember the last "rime" you've mentioned Hitler, but the
correlatiom between you mentioning him and I in this context simply isn't
there. Considering the fact that someone who died 40 years before you were
born wouldn't have an opinion of you either way further muddles the issue.

Its a non issue, Boyd. I mention Elim with the same reverence I mention
Jesus. Doesn't mean either one are constantly on my mind, as evidenced by
the fact that I haven't responded to Elim in close to a year. Or any from

Are you talking about me accusing you of lying? If so then how about this:
At the time of the Pegasus and neutronium debate threads (I'm pretty sure it
was in the neutronium threads), we were arguing. You made some points, I
made some counterpoints. You replied to my posts, snipped my points without
putting in any indication they had been removed and then claimed I hadn't
responded. I angrily replied saying that I had made points and you had
simply removed them. You went strangely silent after that and never admitted
to it, despite me continually asking you to and apologise.
Remember now?

Out of curiousity, what are you referring to? 'self-defence'? Interestingly,
Entourage's dictionary says it should be 'defense', but the spell-checker
only recognises 'defence'. I trust the spell-checker more.

Equating someone making a simple typo with stupidity or a lack of knowledge

I'm a great friend, Boyd. And being able to have platonic relationships with
members of the opposite sex is very important... because eventually, that's what
all my relationships with women will be, save one.
However, I was just noting that I saw you particularly suited for the "sister"
role. The platonic, androgynous guy that every girl feels like she can turn to
when the "guys" in her life are giving her trouble. The kind of guy that says,
"Sure, you can borrow my car to go to the prom. I wasn't going to use it anyway.

An appeal to authority? And which higher power did I call out to there? And
what is wrong with authority? If you're robbed, you call the police. If
someone libels you, you go to the courts. Authorities exist for a reason.
Just because you can stand on your own doesn't mean that it's necessary or
right. The only purpose it can serve then, is to make you look like the big
macho man who doesn't need anyone. But if that's the way you want to act,
then you're really very small. Very small and weak indeed.

Kynes, no matter what I say, you would come out with a response like that.
It's quite irrelevant what I do, because you're not interested in what I'm
saying. You're just interested in crying for attention. Flinging insults
about to try and make other people look dumb and make you look funny. Some
people are easily fooled by that. But that's their problem really. If they
can be that easily manipulated, they'll be the ones to pay for it someday.

I see. You are entitled to that opinion. It affects me in no way. It won't
change the relationships I have with people or will have in the future. It
won't affect the fact that there are those I have been friends with and
there are those who would liked to be more than friends with me. It doesn't
affect any aspect of my life at all. Does it, however, affect yours? Do you
feel a need to find people like that? People who play the 'sister' role? Do
you need to make yourself feel big by laughing at them? Do you feel so

The dictionary was built into Entourage. In fact it's accessible from all of
Office 2001. Incidentally, I didn't check it until after you said something
was wrong because the spell-checker didn't highlight it is an error earlier.
And the reason I trust the spell checker more is that it's set to UK
English, while their exists the possibility that the dictionary has an
American bias and is therefore wrong. In fact, from typing in the words
'colour' and 'color', I can see that it does indeed have an American bias.

Oh, that's mature. If I wanted an argument like that, I would talk to my
little sister. Original insult on my part there? No. Does it speak the
truth? Yes.

Implicitly citing other posters as an authority on my posts.

Unfortunately, Boyd, while you were taking A-Level Boasting, you appear to have
missed out on basic oral advocacy/argumentation. An appeal to authority is a
formal logical fallacy. Tim used to do it all the time. It has nothing to do
with being a "big macho man" and everything to do with the concept of allowing
ideas to stand on their own, since an argument's truth or lack thereof has
nothing to do with its source.

LOL. God, this is just sad and pathetic. "You'll pay! YOU'LL ALL PAY FOR THIS

If you're trying to get me to implicate Aron in some bizarre counter-Boyd
scheme, you can kiss my ass. I will say that the friends I've got in the group
have all weighed in on this issue and there seems to be consensus on what a
jackass moron you are.

Boyd, I could build a robot model of you with three hours and a set of Tonka

you might have been had your soul not been crushed by authority at such a young
age.

I am achieving something. I am achieving the very real feat of amusing myself to
no end at the expense of your time. I don't imagine you're enjoying this

Yeah, I'm a "trolling liar" because your insane Pegasus calculations, accepted

my fault that your "calculations" were like something a three-year old might
show his mother.

God, you're dumb. You're just sitting there, meekly dishing out your lame-duck
pseudo-intellectual middlebrow responses like you're actually accomplishing a
competent defense of yourself. You're like an immortal, but stupid, lemming.

This is so remniscient of Tim. "Your attempts to do such-and-such will
categoricamlly fail. I will not be moved. Your arguments have been snipped
unread."
>> I'm a great friend, Boyd.
>
>Then you're a very different person of the group than you are on it.
I'm also a great asshole. I can be more than one thing. I'm a great friend to
people I don't think are totally ignorant bastards, like you. I think I've even
got a few good friendships happening on this group, limited as they may be by
the Internet. I'd consider Aron in particular to be a guy I wouldn't mind
sitting on the sofa and playing Madden '99 for a few hours with.
That doesn't mean I have to categorically suck up to anyone with a USENET client
like you do.

Yeah, great to know there's common ground. Unfortunately, I think you missed the
"eventually" and the "save one."

So uh, why are you talking to me, Boyd?

Tell me the truth, Boyd. Have you ever gotten to second base with a girl? You
can define "second base" really loosely, too. Through the clothing is fine. Ten
sweaters, I don't care. And keep in mind, if you lie, you suffer for eternity.

"Security" is not an issue with me, Boyd. There are two kinds of people who act
like I do. There is the type you describe: the guys with genuine personality
issues who really do get off on other people's suffering. Then there's the cruel
cynics. I am most firmly planted in the second category.
I would think as much of myself if you didn't even exist.
