...was just a temporary setback. When Romulus gets back on its feet
again where will they turn their attention? Probably to star systems
that have no Federation, Klingon, Cardassian, etc. alliances to protect
them. Places like Bajor. The wrinkly noses don't want to immediately
join the Federation -- the memory of foreign occupation is too recent --
so they think they can get Federation protection without the
responsibilities of actual membership. But the Feddies will get tired
of this something for nothing approach and may withdraw their military
support of Bajor. And if they do, Romulus would be only too happy to
fill the void. I'm sure more than one member of Central Command
Cardassia has had sleepless nights worrying about what Romulus has
planned for a planet that belongs in the Cardassian military orbit.
And Romulans seldom approach directly. I'm sure there are Romulan
operatives at work on Bajor. The fire caves would provide an excellent
base for initial groundwork. Bajor had better think about their exposed
position and what they should do about it before they find themselves
occupied by the Romulans.
