“When the edges push you back, sometimes you have to say enough is enough. Either you stand your ground or you flee. What would you chose?” – Unknown

When it was discovered, members of Starfleet Science called it the Last Frontier and in some ways, they were correct. The Inconnu Expanse is considered by all major powers to be the Gateway to the Unknown; however, it is not a safe gateway after the loss of Deep Space 7.

Some in Starfleet said that the Inconnu Expanse was too dangerous for Starfleet and should be considered a lost cause, however, there were those that saw that as a surrender. In late 2388, at the urging of members of Starfleet Science, Starfleet finished construction on the newly Carnwennan Station.

Carnwennan Station sits at the mouth of the Carnwennan Corridor because it was marked as the safest route to the Inconnu Expanse. However, nothing is safe for long in the Alpha Quadrant.
