Well now here we go again with the old argument of point source vs
parallel development of the martial arts.

Now what makes anyone think that the Okinawans, the Japanese or the
Chinese could have got to the Klingon home world to teach Karate, Kenjutsu
or Tai Chi. No, I think we now have conclusive proof that martial arts
have a parallel development in many different places since the Klingon
home world won't have any connection with Earth for many years and
couldn't possibly be learning from us now unless they are really close,
like within about 50 light-years so that our radio and tv signals can
reach them describing our martial arts.

Klingons have two arms and two legs and one head and no tails so it is
not surprising that their martial arts look kind of like ours, convergent
evolution in action.

But let's not forget Dax on DS9, Kim. One of her hobbies is the study
Klingon Martial arts. :)

==========

It is not surprising that the Klingons developed their own martial arts
which might be confused with Earthling type MA. After all....the Klingons
are a warrior type society which could have developed a type of MA. To the
untrained eye, much of eastern MA might look the same...but they were
developed independently. I wonder if the Klingon World also has Ballet?

The Klingon martial art from Worf practices is called Mok'bara. The
Mok'bara moves were developed by Dan Curry.

I'm not sure about the spelling but it is called " Mok Bar "

It looks the same to all eyes simply because of the two arms, two
legs etc. Maybe the targeting will be different because of
physiology but that's it.

well.... i've seen what "passes" for "klingon martial arts" and particularly
their "t'ai chi". if i practiced my kung fu that way, much less my t'ai chi,
my teacher would shake his head and cry......

and on that subject, the one with "ambo-jitsu" ("the ultimate evolution of
martial arts") with riker and riker.... if that is the ultimate evolution of
martial arts by that century, then thousands of years of kung fu, indian arts,
and even karate/taekwando/etc lost out to the amercian gladiators and the
omnipotent power of the mass media of saturday mornings.... how assinine!!

Mok運ara is a ritual klingon martial arts form, resembling terrestrial Tai
Chi. Worf taught a Mok運ara class to his shipmates on the Enterprise most
mornings. He also taught it to fellow captives at the secret Romulan prison
camp in the Carraya System.
The exercises, designed to enhance one零 agility in hand-to-hand combat,
helped to revive the dormant warrior spirit among the captives there.
The Mok運ara exercises were invented by martial arts expert and visual
effects producer Dan Curry.
The reason I know all this is that our club, the Klingon Imperial
Diplomatic Corps, has had Mok運ara classes running for our members for the
last 3 months here in the Montreal Sector in Canada.
Drop me a note if you would like more information on our club, OK?
