Yet the same folks have no problem
with the fact that the NX-01 seems
more sophisticated than ANY given
TOS ship.
Some folks don't understand why
Archer is not like the "other" captains.
...and then complain because he doesn't
seem to know what he's doing, even
withstanding the fact that he is supposedly
the 1st captain.
We asked for a show with an edge and
now that we have one, we miss the older
series so badly that we dismiss the new one.
Fight or Flight had a bit of an edge. So did Silent Enemy. But not many
more, unless skin tight clothing and blatant sexual overtones are considered
edgy. Considering Trek's history of scantily clad women that edge is pretty
dull.
I want more of the kind of show we were getting in those two episodes.
Aliens that do really cruel and gross things to their captives. Sort of the
polar opposite of TNG's "every discovery a positive adventure" scenarios.

[gvhtexas brings reason to the topic:]
To make this Enterprise less sophisticated
than the era of "The Cage", would mean resorting
to, and limiting oneself, to particle board
and tin-foil sets...lol...and virtually
NO blinking lights, and no monitors, not even
black and white...
:o)
A plastic hull (like many modern cars), with scotch tape around the ship to prevent air from leaking in space, 1980ies laser light tricks to scare enemies away and Windows based computers that crash whenever T'Pol bumps on a monitor with her breasts...
Come on people!!!
Enterprise (NCC 1701, no bloody, A, B, C or D....) was a really cool ship with very few controls in hand to perform multiple operations.
IMHO it has been the most advanced ship in Starfleet history and the ship with the most cool design.
Enterprise is such a great Trek show... It is soooo.... TOS like. But I will be back on this, as I have no time to write more right now.
Live long and prosper.

That should be Duct Tape, the handyman's all-purpose tool. :-)

I think B&B were pressured into cranking out this new show at all cost.
Paramount didn't want to lose the "continuity" of not having a new Trek on
the air for over a year (That would cut into licensing and cross-promotion)
I think that Enterprise was a rush job from the beginning and no real care
was put into the details that could have made the show great IMO.
Unfortunately Trek is turning into a vehicle to market other things for
Paramount (Other movies, other TV shows, books, toys, games, trading cards)
. Kinda like James Bond is a vehicle to market cell phones, Vodka, and Ford
cars. At least with something like Star Wars you know that when you buy a
Star Wars product you will be helping shape the future of entertainment
literally. George Lucas invests his money in the technologies of tomorrow
and he is even helping develop some of those technologies. (Lucas is
basically living the "Trek dream" ) On the other hand Paramount just uses
their profits to buy the CEO's bigger houses and bigger SUV's. Only when
under the gun will Paramount adopt or finance any kind of new technology or
try to actively affect social change. ( I guess they figure they can preach
it but not set an example by acting upon it.)
