"Balance of Terror"
Since the days of the first wooden vessels, all ship's masters have had one happy
privilege; that of uniting two people in the bonds of matrimony. And so we are gathered
here today so that you, [enter name here] and you, [enter name here] in the sight of

"Data's Day"
Since the days of the first wooden sailingships, all captains have enjoyed the happy
privilege of joining together two people in the bonds of matrimony. And so it is my
honour to unite you,[enter name here] and you, [enter name her] together in matrimony,
here in the presence........>>>>>>>>>>>add ending here<<<<<<<<<<<<
P.S. An ending to the speech from "Balance of Terror" would be preferred, because the
ceremonie will performed by a very good "James T. Kirk"-look-a-like, during a small Star
Trek convention on board a cruise-ship. Obviously not a real wedding, but more an event
by way of official engagement party.

This is in answer to Rob Van Doorn's request for an extrapolation of
the "Balance of Terror" wedding vows.
I thought you might all like to see the results of my efforts, so here
goes ...
The first paragraph is Paul "Balance of Terror" Schneider's, the rest
is mine, the circumstances are Paramount's, and the sentiment is
universal. It was fun to write, and I will happily entertain serious
requests for the writing of personalized wedding vows for all
occasions ... ;-]
~~ Star Trek Wedding Ceremony ~~
written by Paul Schneider ("Balance of Terror")
and Ellen M. "Blade" McMicking, D.I.
Since the days of the first wooden vessels, all ship's masters have
had one happy privilege; that of uniting two people in the bonds of
matrimony. And so we are gathered here today so that you, [enter name
here] and you, [enter name here] in the sight of your fellows and in
accordance with our laws and our many believes, may pledge your
allegiance to one another.
Life on a starship is neither easy nor safe, and your duties my
separate you for a time, one from the other. But in coming forward
together to pledge yourselves to each other, you embrace and
underline the very essence of what we are doing, out here among the
stars: to seek out a friend, to forge a lasting partnership, to boldly
go into the joy and uncertainty of tomorrow, hand in hand.
Remember that, no matter how advanced we become, we share this
ceremony, this bonding, in some form or other, with all our ancestors.
The love and the joining of two people is the essense of who and what
we are, and defines us as intelligent beings.
[Name] and [name], please join your left hands, and repeat after me.
<<repeat the following paragraph for each spouse-to-be>>
I, [name] take you [name] // to be my lawfully wedded spouse // to
have and to hold // as my lover, my partner and my friend // in
sickness and in health // in certainty and in uncertainty //
through joy and pain // through stress and ease // through
challenge and boredom // through peace and war //// I pledge you
my honour, my loyalty and my love //// You will be in my
mind // and in my heart // until death takes me //// I give you
this token [hands item with right hand] of my love and my promise.
<<NB. the "item" mentioned is usually a ring, in ceremonies involving
two Earth Humans. Other options are the exchange of pendants,
earrings (Bajoran, etc.), knives, brooches, armour, etc. A
ceremony between two beings of differing worlds or cultures may
include an exchange of two different items, reflecting a celebration
of the couple's differences.>>
[Name] and [name], you have exchanged your vows and tokens before this
company of your colleagues, friends and family. You have honoured us
by allowing us to be a part of this ceremony, and of your love for
each other. We stand in witness to your vows, and to your intent to
make this partnership last all your life. As your friends, it is our
duty to help you in your journey together, just as it is our privilege
to share in your joy today, as you are bound to one another.
Now, by the power vested in me by Star Fleet Command, and by my office
as Captain of this vessel, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may
seal your vows with a kiss.
