I've read a lot of the Voyager stories in the archives, and I've had a
great time in doing so. These are the ones that really stuck in my mind
for one reason or another:
"Paris Nocturne" by Brenda Antrim
I didn't really take to the character of Tom Paris - he reminds of the kind
of guys I try to avoid! Brenda's story (and its sequel La Rossignole) made
me rethink my first impressions. At last I could see some depth to Paris
- I guess that's why I enjoy all the stories so much - they give you some
kind of
background that is lacking in the series.
"Talking Stick" by Macedon
Chakotay is one of my favourite characters, and Macedon's story really captures
the character that's only hinted at in the series. The theme and
characterisation just blew me away. It also inspired me to sit up till 4am
writing a story of my own. (I won't be inflicting it on anyone just yet!!)
Why isn't Macedon writing scripts and/or Voyager novels, that's what I want to
know!! This guy should be published, and be given loads of money to write more.
(..Maggie trying to fill up as many lines as possible, but failing miserably
due to the lateness of the hour)
"A Cherished Alienation" by Macedon
Okay, so I've already raved on about how wonderful a writer Macedon is, but
just in case you didn't catch it the first time ....wow! A story of epic
proportions (well, for me it was, anyway) that caught me by the scruff of
the neck in the first few words, and kept me trawling for all the parts. One
of the first stories I read when I found this newsgroup way back in January
this year, and which convinced me that I should hang around. Macedon has a
gift of making the characters seem so real - you really care about what
happens to them - I've stayed up all night just to find out!
"Leavetaking" by Michelle Erica Green
This story really choked me up (... it was late.. I'd had a bad day...yeah,
yeah, I'm a die hard romantic) Only one book I've ever read has made me cry,
and *no*, this didn't make me cry, but I felt mighty damn sad when I finished
it. Michelle, have you written other stories that I've missed?? Please
keep writing!
This is getting a bit long, and I require sleep, but I just want to mention
the following as well
"Circle" & "Red Queen's Repose" by Peg Robinson(?)
"Onca & the Nightingale" series, by Carly Hunter
Thanks to all the writers who've posted stories.
Cheers
Maggie
Lurking, but trying really hard to write some stories of her own
