story = Y3 Fictions by Henrietta Wotton
comment = As was said of a work of Cardassian fiction in the story,
"Fictions" is a "pretty good read" and the characters are "quite
vividly individualized" I enjoyed the fencing between Garak and Bashir
at the beginning, ostensibly about a literary work, but with plenty of
"subtext."<G> And I like how a work of fiction is revealed to be they
key to getting Bashir to trust Garak. And how "fictions" of one type
figure into the resolution.

story = Y2 Just Another Discussion of Literature by Kathryn Ramage
comment = I liked the subtlety of this oblique courtship told once
again thought a literary discussion. I loved the last, witty lines
about Bashir's expectations.

story = Y7 Kh'rat-la by Kathryn Ramage
comment = I liked this tale of Bashir being caught between Garak's and
Dukat's machinations. The Cardassian terms used to describe Bashir and
how their meanings were used was clever.

story = Y10 On Top Once More by Invicta
comment = I knew this was going to be fun from the very first lines
and
how can you not love a story with a line like "[s]ulking began,
seriously sulky sulking on both their parts." LOL! As bizarre as the
comparison might seem especially given the sexual content, I thought
of Jane Austen in the way this piece
took an omniscient POV and mixed humor with romance and sly
observations of character. I loved the story involving Odo. And the
interspecies....er...conflicts were hilarious (You haven't lived btw
till you read
Invicta's sample of Cardassian erotica in the story). Very fun--and
despite thousands of stories suggesting otherwise--the problems here
were
all too plausible given two aliens from different worlds. And it's not
all laughs. There's a winning serious and heartwarming side to this
story
too.

comment = A good, suspenseful plot. Bashir, Garak, and Dukat were all
well drawn and their relationships with each other made for
interesting
reading.

comment = Bashir, Garak, and Miles were all drawn well and this had a
satisfying plot and the way the love was shown between them quite
affecting.

story = Y11 Talljet Quartet by Karmen Ghia
comment = It can be hard for a fanfic writer to keep a reader's
interest when a story starts with, and has as a central focus,
original
characters. Such is not the case here with the Talljet's. I found the
story
absorbing from the beginning since Jir is such an engaging, seductive
artiste personality with an interesting alien perspective. I laughed
at
a certain mishap with a ripped gown (of course repaired by a certain
tailor) I like how Karmen uses elements from a previous section to
lead
into and structure the next. Like the way a Klingon sermon given by
one
brother in the prior portion is delivered by another brother in the
next (A Klingon sermon given by a Vulcanoid and incorporating a tale
from
the Terran "Bhagavad Gita" Part of what's delightful about the tale is
the diversity of cultures and unexpected combinations of things you
first might think wouldn't go together). I'm not likely to forget
Hobie
kissing Quark, or the croquet match, or any number of small moments.!
The dialogue was sparkling and intelligent and the descriptions often
sensuous. I was amazed at how small things dropped here and there are
all tied together in the end. I loved Spock in this. This is long and
breathtaking in scope--easily enough here for two long novels. And yet
you come to an end and think damn? Too short. How am I going to deal
with
the withdrawal symptoms now?
