In filk form, as inspired by "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"....
------
The legend is told out in the stars burning cold
Of the nebula known as the Badlands
The nebula it’s said is a place for the bold
With monsters and creatures from legends
With a crew of four hundred and thirty-five more
Than the Starship Enterprise had empty
The starship and crew were all to be doomed
When the frightful Borg starship came early
The ship was the flag for the Federation side
Sailing out from Earth for exploring
As the fleet cruisers go it was more famous than most
With Kirk and his crewmen well seasoned
Concluding peace terms with the Klingon Chancellor
When they left on a trip to the Badlands
But once in the mist when the alarms all went off
Could it be a alien scan they were feeling?
The screech of the hull made a terrible sound
As a beam sliced into the saucer
And it was in Kirk’s heart that he knew
T’was death come for coin for its coffers
The torpedos screamed out, the phasers burned too
As the terrible black cube kept slashing
When the tractor beam came it was too late to flee
In the face of the awful black cube’s power
When the shields gave in the old Scotsman came on
Saying “Jim, I’ve got no more power to give ye.”
And then with a flash the drones came beaming in
And the Captain said, “Friends, it’s been good to know you.”
When the warp drive flamed bright and the cube vanished in light
Came the death of the starship Enterprise
Do any of us know where a lost starship goes
When it vanishes into the dark like a candle?
Starfleet searched but it was all but for naught
The ship was gone and her crew gone within her
They might have broke up or been vaporized
They just knew that the Borg had been slaughtered
And all that remains is the memory of the names
Of the valiant ship and her officers
Vulcans ponder, Klingons all sing
In the halls of their torchlit stone castles
Romulans haunt the dark in shadows of green
Argelius and Risa still entertain sportsmen
And out to the rim the dark still takes in
What mother Terra will send there
And the starships all go as the spacers still know
With the menacing black cubeships remembered
To a sunlit city on Terra they came
To the Starfleet Academy Chapel
The ship bell chimed four hundred thirty five times
For each soul on the starship Enterprise
The legend is told out in the stars burning cold
Of the nebula known as the Badlands
The nebula it’s said is a place for the bold
With monsters and creatures from legends
Well that was nifty. With an ending like that there may well have been room for
a sequel. After all, Voyager got thrown across the galaxy from the Badlands if
I recall correctly.
(etc.)
Wonderful filk. Thanks for posting it.
Well, I disagree with both.
"Anon Captain Kirk and his crew returned to Earth to face the charges made
against them by the Starfleet. It is said that they were hailed as the
heroes they were. It is said that they were given a new ship called
Enterprise. And it is said that they sailed that Enterprise to look upon
the face of God.
"But it is also said that, having conquered Death as we have here seen,
Captain Kirk and his crew live still; and shall return to Earth in her
hour of greatest need."

working on it."
