For those of you who missed a part, or who are new to the group, this is
your chance to catch up. :)
What is the Talking Stick/Circle series? It's a braided novel, with
alternating "chapters" (usually a self-contained episode) written by
myself or Peg Robinson. It all started when I wrote the original
"Talking Stick" in fed-up, frustrated response to the Voyager episode
"Initiations." I wanted to give a native voice to a native character.
It was written in first person, from Chakotay's point of view. Some
months later, I recieved a letter from Peg Robinson, who had read the
story in the archive, and wanted permission to write a sequel-response
in Janeway's voice. This was "Circle," and the rest of the series
generated itself out of that.
To date, six distinct "episodes" have been written, three from each of
us, and a seventh is on the way. They are:
1. Talking Stick (myself) 5. Walking Across Egypt (myself)
2. Circle (Peg) 6. Raisins and Almonds (Peg)
3. A Cherished Alienation (myself) 7. Otterskin (myself, forthcoming)
4. The Red Queen's Repose (Peg)
CHANGES:
In preparation for reposting this, I've gone back through and edited my
stories a bit for a smoother narrative. I also put a different quote at
the beginning of "Talking Stick." And, more importantly, I have decided
to put a different name on mine--my Indian name. The pseudonym "Macedon"
is something of a jest on what I do for a living: ancient history, and
specifically that of Alexander of Macedon (aka, the Great). But for the
Talking Stick/Circle series, I thought it important to use my native name.
Joe Little Otter, aka "Macedon"
(Alara: Please substitute these new version for the old ones currently
in the archive. Aside from the name change, we'll be endeavoring to
indicate at the end of each the title of the story which immediately
follows, to help later readers keep track. Also, if it's possible,
might could all six of the current stories, plus future installments,
be placed together in the archive under the broad title "Talking Stick/
Circle"? Many thanks for your patience.)
