VOY: Otterskin - author's notes (Talking Stick/Circle)

Comments and Acknowledgements for "Otterskin":
This story represents a departure from the way Peg and I have
previously worked. Both our names are on it because we both wrote
sections. Where the POV is Chakotay's, it's me. Where the POV is
Janeway, it's Peg. (Logical, as Tuvok would say.)
This story *does* contain semi-graphic portrayal of sex between two
consenting adults. We are rating it [R], not [NC-17], because it's
not a piece of erotica but a sex scene in a 'novel'. Nevertheless,
the regular schpiel applies: minors are not permitted to read it
without a parent's approval.
The story will go up roughly one post a day. If anyone misses a post,
please wait a few days, as it takes some systems longer than others
for posts to appear. If, after a few days, you're still missing a
part, email me and I'll be happy to send it to you.
A few sidenotes:
--The title "Otterskin" has nothing to do with my name; it's purely
coincidence. The meaning behind the title will become apparent.
--My thanks to Diavolessa for her help with Magda's French.
--Please remember that the "Talking Stick/Circle" series (no, we never
did come up with a better title!) is something of an alternate time-
line. The episode "Resolutions" did not happen, and very little of
VOYAGER's season 3 is to be assumed except "Basics II." Why? Simple.
Peg and I plotted out this thing *months* ago, long before the end of
season 2, and we don't want to spend all of our time revising past
parts for each new contradictory piece of information which shows up
as the series progresses. We incorporate what we can, and what does
not directly conflict with anything we already had plotted. So it's
a bit of potluck.
--To newcomers, this is part 7 (story 7, chapter 7...however you prefer
to label it) in a series novel co-authored by myself and Peg Robinson.
If you've not been keeping up with the reposts, or are new enough you
arrived in the middle of them, or have otherwise caught only a part of
of them, I advise popping over to the a.s.c ftp site and reading the
full thing. Like any novel or movie, coming in at the middle will tend
to leave one a bit confused. ;> With "Otterskin" you're about 45
minutes into a 1-hour episode.

Liz - The first two parts have been posted, and the third will go up late
this afternoon. If you're site hasn't received them yet, wait a day or so.
I posted the "author's note" and the first part at the same time. It's
the vaguaries of net distribution that sometimes causes only part of a
story posting to show up at a site. Give it a day or so, then email me if
it never shows, or only later parts show.
