NOVA-- Micbo
Captain Janeway sat on the bridge facing the view screen. Ensign Kim
continued his warnings from the Comm. Voyager was too close to the
unstable star. By his calculations the star's luminousity would increase
tremendously in a matter of minutes. Captain Janeway ignored his warnings
spoke towards Tuvok. Only half mindful of anyone else's presence, turned
from the screen. "Tuvok, raise shields." She returned her undivided
attention to the pulsating luminous body, memorized by its radiance.
"I'm getting readings from the probe, Captain." So distracted by the
impending occurrence that she had completely forgotten about the probe.
"Fine...Ensign." This time, Janeway had not even bothered to feign
interest in what was occuring on the bridge. Initially, she instructed Tom
to set coordinates to the rare phenomenon-- ever the scientist-- to record
readings for purely scientific and analytical purposes. Voyager may not
get the chance again. Certainly after obtaining the readings and
recovering the probe, her bridge crew assumed they would move back to a
safe distance. Not so. They each waited anxiously for their captain to
instruct the gifted helmsman to take Voyager out of harms way, but she had
not yet. And they had only a matter minutes to move to a safe distance to
watch the naturally occurring rarity. However, leaving was the last thing
on Janeway's mind. She was riveted. Enthralled.
Chakotay had seen that look before. She employed it when they were alone
and she wanted to communicate, unvoiced, her desire. He watched her watch
the celestial wonder and if had not have been for the sound of Tuvok
impatiently clearing his throat, Chakotay would have been lost in Kathryn
just she was lost in what the celestial entity would soon become. Once
snatched out of his trance, Chakotay took action; Janeway could not.
"Lt. Paris, move Voyager to a safe distance." Janeway began to turn to
Chakotay to protest, but was haunted by the first physical signs of cosmic
change. The star flickered, the beginning of its metamorphosis. Janeway
only scratched at her console, impatiently, creating a sound perfectly
choreographed to the gaseous exchanges taking place light years away.
"The helm is not responding." Janeway stood immediately.
"B'Elanna!"
"I'm on it,Captain." She responded almost before Janeway spoke to her.
"The star's activity is creating space undulations. The impact is knocking
systems off line all over the ship." B'Elanna worked feverously at
Engineering Bay II.
"Compensate." As Voyager began to vibrate, Janeway joined the Chief
Engineer at her panel, her hands matched the fervor of the young Lieutenant.
"Just lost warp drive and environmental controls, but I've got thrusters
on line."
"Shields operating at 76 percent."
"Paris, get us out of here." Chakotay barked the order then seated
himself in his commander's chair. Knowing there would not be enough time
to move the ship to a safe distance, Chakotay flipped open his console.
"Paris head to these coordinates. Paris entered the coordinates just as the
star went Super Nova. The crew had not anticipated an occurrence of this
magnitude. "All hands, brace for impact." The Nova's outburst apexed at
an intrinsic luminosity fifty times that of the sun; twice what they
expected-- prepared for.
With the exception of Captain Janeway, who was standing, leaning against
B'Elanna's chair, the entire bridge crew managed to remain seated, rocked
about using the support of their stations to brace themselves against the
turbulent disturbance created by the Super Nova. Janeway would have made
it to her seat had she not been so affected by the Nova. But she
hesitated momentarily hypnotized by its brilliance. The ship went to red
alert as Voyager bumped and skipped along the rippled spatial distortions.
When Tom finally regained helm control, the only casualty lay prone near
the bottom of the giant view screen. In the time during which the ship was
being jostled through space, Captain Janeway was thrown over the railing to
the front of Voyager.
Kathryn peeled off the last of her damp uniform, ambled sluggishly towards
the replicator then called up a large ice tea. It was hot. Too hot!
Kathryn hated the heat. Always had; especially still, stifling, breezeless
heat like she was experiencing now. She silently cursed the scientist
within. She kicked herself for her inquisitiveness. If she hadn't been
so preoccupied with that damn star. Soon it would be too hot to remain in
her quarters. She had only herself to blame. She ordered Voyager to the
star. She held them there in place. She wanted to take readings, but soon
even the reading became unimportant, penultimate to seeing the
actualization of the Nova-- Super Nova. The Nova's intensity had certainly
been a pleasant twist, Kathryn mused while rolling the cool wet glass along
her chest. She flopped down on the couch, welcoming the cool splash of ice
tea. "This is ridiculous." She spoke only to herself. "Well grin and
bare it." She sipped her tea, swallowing hard. Kathryn rested her head on
the back of the couch, exposing her neck. She placed the bottom of the
cold glass on her forehead. Cool condensation ran from the sides of the
glass down the sides of her face. She ran the tumbler across the bridge of
her nose and kissed it with her lips. Kathryn allowed the glass to rest,
chilling her lips as she contemplated yet again the resplendent beauty she
witnessed hours earlier.
Sitting up suddenly, Kathryn smiled wickedly. She had an idea. There was
no point in not using this heat to her advantage.
"Janeway to Torres."
"Torres here."
"Report." B'Elanna hesitated before answering.
"Uh, Captain... I thought you were ordered off duty by The Doctor."
"Yes, Lt. Torres, I am off duty." Kathryn moved to her sleeping area to
shower and change.
"I know that, Captain, but Chakotay has ordered that all your inquires be
directed to him."
"Understood." B'Elanna hesitated before cutting the signal. Kathyrn
knowing she would, waited.
"Captain... the warp engines are back on line. But environmental controls
are not. That's why it's so damned hot. We're trying to figure out a way
now to vent the heat that's coming from the warp core."
"Yes, B'Elanna. I understand." Kathryn smiled at the younger woman silent
embarrassment.
"Oh... Captain of course you do. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to suggest..."
"Forget it. It's no big deal. I asked for a report. How long before
you get environmental controls back on line?" Chakotay would ring her neck
if he found out she was speaking with the captain in detail. The Doctor
ordered her to her quarters-- relieved of duty until her next appointment
which was not scheduled until the next morning. Since she insisted on
leaving sick bay, Kathryn was ordered not to leave he quarters or have any
communication with the bridge.
"At least another seven hours, Captain." B'Elanna removed her uniform
vest. "Maybe longer." Not much she hoped. "Captain." B'Elanna's voice
boomed after a short silence. She was about to make a suggestion to the
captain and was a little nervous. "Some of the crew are taking a swim on
holodeck 2... If you're looking for something to take your mind off the
heat..." Kathyrn suppressed a snicker.
"Thank you, B'Elanna for your suggestion. But I'll pass. May I suggest
that you follow your own advice." Kathryn slipped into the shower. When
she withdrew, she felt as if her body temperature was higher than before.
"Computer, locate Commander Chakotay."
"Commander Chakotay is on the bridge." Kathryn opened the comm. link
again. "Janeway to Chakotay."
"Chakotay here." He wondered what took her so long. He expected her to
contact the bridge hours ago. "How can I help you, Captain?" Kathryn
toweled her damp skin concentrating on the sound of his voice, almost
feeling the baritone vibrations.
"I left a few padds on my desk. I wouldn't dare defy The Doctor's orders
by retrieving them myself. Would you please send them to my quarters?"
"Yes, Captain, I'll send them right away." Chakotay entered the ready
room. He perused the room. The only padd he saw was the one he'd left
minutes ago. "Captain Janeway."
"Yes, Chakotay." Chakotay allowed one side of his mouth to curve into a
crooked grin. She was definitely not using her captain's voice.
"I don't see any padds on your desk."
"No?" Kathryn spread the light scented oil over her stomach.
"No. Are you sure you left them in your ready room, Captain?"
"On second thought..." She paused smoothing the peach scented sheen over
her crossed leg. "I think I'll just relax. This heat is beginning to get
to me. How do you stand it, Chakotay?" Chakotay noted the emphasis on his
name, no title.
"I don't think these uniforms were designed with environmental control
failure in mind."
"I wouldn't know. I've been out of my uniform for some time now."
Kathyrn cut the link. After she finished dressing, she ordered another ice
tea. Before she made it back to the couch, her door signal sounded.
Kathryn lounged on the couch dressed only in a black bandeau and panties.
After his initial reaction, Chakotay moved easily into Kathryn quarters
carrying the padd he removed from her desk. He searched the room. Kathryn
was reclined comfortably on the couch wearing little more than a smile and
a tall glass of ice tea.
"Would you like some, Chakotay?" She rolled the glass across her
forehead. Chakotay stood, leaning, arms crossed in the closed door way. "I
would offer you some of this..." She emptied the cup of its contents then
held up the cup for him to examine. But it's all gone." She pouted for
him. "I've been drinking the stuff for hours trying to stay cool. By the
time B'Elanna gets environmental controls back on line, I will have used
all my replicator rations." She shook her head slowly, accenting every
other syllable. "There's got to be another way to beat this heat." She
place the empty glass on the table, settling both arms on the length of the
back of the couch.
Kathyrn was teasing him. He didn't mind-- enjoyed it in fact. Chakotay
loved the way she toyed with him. As long as in the end they were both
satisfied, he would follow her lead; for a while before taking over. She
had a plan. He would play along.
"Yes, a cold drink would be nice." He entered the room and headed for the
replicator. He stood at the replicator. Before ordering, he turned. "You
know," Chakotay faced her, in thought , with his finger crossing both
lips. "the key to staying comfortable in this kind of heat is to cool the
blood."
"And how do you plan to cool your blood, Chakotay?" Chakotay faced the
replicator again, which was difficult as Kathryn had uncrossed and opened
her legs a few centimeters while he was turned away.
"My blood? Oh, no. I'm fine, Kathyrn. It's you who needs to cool down."
Kathryn's only response was a heartily laugh which ceased when Chakotay
turned around holding a large bowl of ice. The evaporating molecules
could be seen easily in the sweltering heat of the room. Chakotay may as
well been holding a bowl of steaming soup. Kathyrn's eyes sparkled. Oh
the things she and her naughty commander could do with a bowl of ice! She
watched his movements intently listening to the sounds of the ice pop
against the heat of the room. "Come here." Chakotay stood in the center
of the sitting room, motioning her to join him.
"Chakotay why don't you come over here where it's more comfortable?" She
patted the space on the couch besides her hip. Chakotay cocked his head
forty-five degrees to the right.
"I was planning to share with you an old custom of my people... but if
you're not interested..." He placed the bowl on the low table. Kathryn
had no intentions of letting him leave.
"Okay. But only for posterity sake." She allowed him to lead her to the
bedroom.
"Um humm. Stand close. Close your eyes." Kathyrn moved directly in
front of Chakotay. Chakotay picked a large chunk of ice from the bowl and
slowly painted her lips with the frozen block. Liquid chill ran down the
corners of her mouth and on to her neck and breasts. Kathryn sucked and
licked the ice until she only kissed fingers. Chakotay traced the ice
along her hair line, taking special care to soak her devil's peak. All the
while Kathryn's eyes remained closed.
"Is that better?" He whispered, cooling the pulse point at the nape of
her neck.
"Mmmmm." She leaned completely against his strong arm, holding his hand
which held a large ice cube. "It feels wonderful." Chakotay straddled her
leaning body, pulling hers to his, he lowered her gently on the bed.
"Heat rises. It's cooler down here."
"Oh?"
"Mmm humm. How's this?" He ignored her instinctive reaction to the icy
balm he rubbed over her abdomen.
"Chakotay, that's cold."
"Do you want me to stop?" He drew intricate designs across her stomach.
Kathryn raised on her elbows just enough to watch Chakotay create a pool in
her belly button. It tickled.
"That's not really a pulse point now is it?" Chakotay ignored her last
comment. Instead of answering, he kissed her back to the bed. Taking
another cube in his hand, he pulled his body along side hers. He held the
frozen liquid on her right wrist, then the left. Chakotay reached over
unhooking her bra. Kathryn felt the cool blood curse through her veins.
"This is going to be cold." Kathryn noticed the grin on his face. He
lowered the solid water to her breast. He chuckled, hearing the quick
sudden intake of air she sucked through her teeth. "I said it was going to
be cold." Another laugh. Chakotay leaned further over her body. In this
more comfortable position, he was better able to observe her reactions. He
watched the rise and fall of her chest. Her breasts vibrated against the
strain of her controlled breathing. Chakotay encircled the bulb of her
breast nearest him. He circled the soft mound until the heat radiating
from her body melted the ice completely.
Kathryn moved her hand to her stomach. She had become aroused by
Chakotay's icy touch. The cold ice only heated her passion. She was
beginning to lose the battle. "Chakotay, that's not going to cool me
off..." A quick flick of Chakotay's tongue on her nipple was his only
response. Chakotay was chewing ice, so the cool tingle she felt on her
hardened her nipple would remain until he permitted it to thaw. But that
was not an immediate possibility. He covered her breast with his mouth.
Kathryn ran her fingers through his hair. She squirmed beneath his touch.
Chakotay felt her movement. He was equally aroused and knew if he remained
pressed against her body, he would never reach that last pulse point.
Chakotay leaned back on his elbows and scooted down along side her body.
He dipped his hand deep in the bowl. The ice was almost gone. Most of
what remained was nearly melted. Chakotay turned sideways inching his bent
knees below her legs, prompting her knees upward. Beginning just below her
waist, he ran the last large chunk of ice down the length of her leg and
along the bottom of her feet. Kathryn's body responded just as he hoped.
The hand on her stomach moved below her belly, her finger tips tucked
beneath the elastic of her panties. The other circled her soft tough
nipple. Her hips moved involuntarily in synch with her skillful fingers.
Chakotay skated the ice chunk down the other leg. He watched the chilled
water wrap itself around the surface of her thigh. His eyes trailed the
water as it either dripped on to the sheets or followed the circumference
of her leg, winding down to its fleshy underside where the tiny streams
disappeared into the swelling pool between her legs.
Chakotay kissed one knee, then the other. He followed the pattern of
water down the insides of her thighs, watching carefully the slow creeping
fingers moving towards a destination he planned to claim as his own.
Kathryn shifted, sighing softly. She wanted him. She was possessed by the
heat, the cold and his touch. And only merging of the three would relieve
the building tension racking her body. Chakotay replaced the hand on her
breast with his own. With the other, he slid the panties over her round
bottom, sliding them down her legs, past her feet. He moved back up to
kiss her lips gently. He removed his clothes quickly and rejoined her on
the bed. By the time she thrashed against him, back arched, legs wrapped
around his waist and he lunged forth unable to control his quick thrusts,
both were exhausted from and immune to the heat which sweltered around them.
They lay motionless not wanting to create any more heat. They would have
fallen asleep but were pulled languid from their positions by the sound of
Kathryn's communication signal sounding.
"Torres to Captain Janeway." Kathryn lifted to Chakotay's chest. She was
feeling a bit cooler. The work out, she assumed.
"Janeway here." She stiffled a yawn. Chakotay shifted her pointy elbows,
resting them on a more fleshy part of his torso. Kathryn smile
apologetically, but did not speak. Kathryn listened intently as her Chief
Engineer continued her report.
"Captain, we've finally have environmental controls on line. Your
quarters should be returning to normal soon. I'm redirecting..."
Chakotay sat up in bed with such force that Kathryn had to hold on or be
thrown from the bed.
"Torres, you were specifically ordered to report any and all ship's
business directly to me. Captain Janeway has been relieved of duty until
0730 tomorrow." B'Elanna knew Chakotay was angry. Otherwise he would
never had made his presence known. She was so exited about finally getting
everything repaired, she had completely forgotten about The Doctor
relieving Janeway from duty.
"Oh, Commander, I thought...I mean, I didn't know..."
"Never mind B'Elanna, I'll meet you on the bridge in thirty minutes."
"Yes sir." Chakotay cut the com. link. Kathryn didn't want to interfere,
especially when he was angry about personnel ignoring his command duties--
particularly when personal feelings were involved. But surely her knew
B'Elanna of all people would not do so intentionally.
"Chakotay" She stroked name slowly along his tense arm. "I don't
think..." Kathryn didn't finish. She was speaking to him not as his
captain, but as his lover. They had long ago defined the different
parameters. Kathryn didn't want to anger Chakotay any further. She simply
slipped from behind him. As she rose from the bed she took him by the arm.
As they made slow love in the shower, she whispered her involvement in
B'Elanna's earlier mistake. By the time Chakotay toweled himself and
dressed for bridge duty, Kathryn could see that he was in a much better
mood to deal with his dear friend.
Before leaving, Chakotay handed Kathryn the padd he brought in earlier.
"Here is the reports from the department heads. Stellar cart. took it
upon themselves to name "her." Kathryn smiled at her private thoughts as
she read the name given to the heavenly celestial body. The name was
perfect, given the reasoning behind it. "Dangerous." Succinct. True.
But for Kathyrn, it was more like "Divine" or "Delicious" It was a
lesson worth learning. Kathyrn was the only one hurt, but she was also the
only person living to ever witness and live to describe the magic, mystery
and potency of NovaD.
Love is very peaceful.
