I started the Askem Noone pen name as a way for authors to post a story
anonymously yet still receive and reply to feedback without having to worry
about starting up and maintaining different email addys. Also at the time I
started this service there was a request for more outrageous treksmut to be
posted so it seemed a good way to encourage it.
Why would someone want to post anonymously? There's a few reasons. 1. The
story is written in a different style to the authors usual style and they
didn't want preconceptions cluttering up the readers view of the story.
2.The story is totally outrageous and liable to attract flames, piss people
off, shock, offend and/or start a flame war and the writer doesn't want the
hassle of being associated with it. 3. The story is an experiment to see if
an idea, theme, topic, style, tone, or pairing works. 4. The story pushes
the boundaries of the Trek world and not just canon but fanfic canon too. 5.
New writers keen to post their first Treksmut but want to test the waters
first before putting their name to a "naughty" fanfic. There're other
reasons obviously, but this is just to give you ideas. (leading people
astray, again)
How does it works? Send your story to my e-addy <Rob...@s054.aone.net.au>,
split into Alexas-friendly bits of no more than 25k. I strip headers and
check to make sure you've remembered to leave your name off and then post
the story to ASCEM under the Askem Noone pen name. Usually I'll put a little
note at the start to remind people that it's not my story, but to send
feedback to my e-addy. Then when I receive feedback for your story, I
acknowledge receipt of the comment to the sender, and foreward the comment
to you. If you want to reply to the comment making person, send your reply
to me, I strip headers etc, and foreward it on.
Simple. Now it sounds like a lot of work, but it really isn't, and there's
been some quite, hmmmm, (thinks tactfully) interesting? inventive?
outrageous? "truely wonderfull, full on fuck fests" stories posted so far.
Sure, you need to trust me but I haven't fucked up yet(touch wood). The
Askem Noone stuff gets put into its own folder so as not to be confused with
the other mail, and it does get backed up.
Why "Askem Noone"? It's for "ASCEM, No one". It's a convenient way of
letting the reader know that an Askem Noone story will typically be "outside
of the square" and they better read those warnings and heed them. Watch out!
Known writers who may quite happily dispense sweet and light romance *may*
be fucking with your mind, rubbing their hands with glee as you squirm.
Now your anonymity isn't written in stone. If at any time *you* want to own
up to writing an Askem Noone feel free to do so. It's always your story. You
own it as much as Paramount lets you. *You* say where it gets archived etc.
as part of your normal intro and disclaimers. The only thing missing will be
the authors name. But *you* will be the only person who can "out" yourself
as the author. My lips are sealed. They won't hear it from me. They could
drag me naked and screaming across hot Picards and Janeways and I wouldn't
tell (go on, I dare ya! Go on... please?)
Why am I doing this? Cause I'm a nice person? Cause I like off beat, well
written Treksmut as much as the next person? Cause I've had lots of fun with
ascem and it's my way of helping out? Cause I get to read these stories
first? Three out of these four reasons are true.<g> If you want to know more
