Stephen,

The awards graphics are fabulous! but I am wondering if there is a
reason there are no 'square' ones (with 1, 2, & 3) for VOY?

They look great. But why doesn't VOY have the 1/2/3 square icons like
the rest of the series do?

There was a little problem with the rendering software that stopped the
Voyager ones ... that problem has been solved, but I haven't done the text
yet for it.

You may see one more MIS one soon, as well as the missing ENT ... depending
on which project catches my eye.

Voyager now has the traditional 130x130 as well as the 267x100 ... and as
an extra special bonus the 200x67 size as well, which some people asked for
last year.

Hi all..
I'm new to the list and loving the fic..lots of talented writers here!
I've been writing fanfic for about 25 years now (started when I was 12!) and
I am very aware of the whole MarySue thing. That said, how do you guys feel
about Trek fic with original characters who are not Mary Sue's? Thanks again
for all the great fic!

Hi,

The 1st, 2nd, & 3rd graphics look really great, but I was wondering if there
is a winners banner for Enterprise?

Alia, It all depends on if I can find a good new 3d Model of the NX-01 or a
Shuttle Pod in the format I use. Archer worked okay for the 130x130 but he
just doesn't fit in the 269x100 size. I'm working on it (Graphics is what
I do for fun, when I need a break from archive reprogramming) though. I
think I may have found one.

Just fine. Lots of writers here use 'em, to excellent advantage.

Please, feel free to post!!

Lookin' forward!!

Starshadow (just watch the headers. It took me a while to get 'em right.
There is a faq. Somewhere.
Archiving is automatic, so the headers count. )

Original characters can be a vital part of the plot of a story.
HOWEVER, many people read fanfic because they want to read about
certain characters, and if the story *centers* around an OC instead of
one of the favorites, it takes a little more excellence than usual to
interest the reader. That's the thing about fanfic--people aren't just
reading it to read other people's stories. They want to read about
characters, a relationship, a universe, an alien species, etc.
Otherwise, they'd just be reading general original fiction, not fanfic.

I've read two stories, one a hetfic by Lyra and one a slashfic by
Birgit, that were so good that they transcended fanfic and became
excellent original stories under their own rights. Lyra's did involve
Scotty paired with an OC, and basically, it took her level of
perfectionism to create an OC that was interesting enough to rival the
characters I'm already here to read about. (Birgit's was K/Mc, so that
wasn't an issue there.)

So, basically, there's more pressure on the author to be really,
really good if he or she is writing an OC as a main character. And
even MORE pressure if the OC is romantically involved with one of the
favorites. But original characters as supporting characters don't
require any kind of special treatment, in my opinion.
