Scene: engineering lab in the dome, DS 4

It had just been the usual Raizfoll luck that the acting CO of the MACRONIN had been gone by the time Piper had arrived in the Security HQ. The Sub-Commander apparently had departed for the romulan embassy and even Piper wasn´t crazy enough to waltz in there without official backup.

Instead, he had returned to one of the R&M labs to take a closer look at the EM traces he had recorded in the temporary quaters of Captain Thorne.

In the 20th century novels he had read about private investigators the dicks always were smarter and faster than the police.

Maybe things had really changed in the last four-hundred years.

By the time Piper had figured out that a whole lot of transporting had been going on in Thornes´quaters, the clowns from FIT had already reached the same conclusion. In fact, they were happy to feed the details to the Assistant Chief Service Engineer, giving him the verbal equivalent of a one-finger-salute.

However, Piper still had an edge when it came to the tiny little technical details of transporter technology. Depending on the manufacturing race, transporter devices had a unique energetic fingerprint that could be identified and Piper had picked up enough residual EM waves to compare them to the patterns recorded in the technical databanks.

The freighter BOBASTU was out first since the wave pattern belonged to a Federation civilian transporter. Pakled transporters used an annular transmission beam that was as different from Federation standard as a cannoo was from a 500-feet yacht, which was also a fitting image to describe the reliablity of a Pakled transporter.

Giving the repuation of this race to "find" alien equipment the custom inspectors habitually searched any Pakled vessel even more thoroughly than other ships, so Piper could be pretty sure that there had been nothing fancy aboard the BOBASTU.

For once Fortuna was on Raizfoll´s side, allowing him to rule out the FRITJOF NANSEN as well. The prospector ship had a Federation transporter but the service technicians had replaced a jittering transporter conduit just yesterday. Their subsequent performance tests were still on file and the wave pattern diverted slightly from the the samples in Thornes´ room.

Which left the MOONS OF TELLAR as the only logical suspect in the kidnapping case.

Chewing devotedly on a mocca flavored bubblegum Piper transferred his findings to a PADD and left the lab to have a talk with Captain Strange.

The idea to go adventuring instead of doing double shifts in the dome really apealed to him.

<<NRPG: Hello MACRONIN crew.

It seems you are moving off the station soon. If you don´t mind Piper would accompany you, at least for the duration of this mission.>>
