Kevoi glanced over at the First and screamed, "Well?!?"
"They did not see us. Their clumsy attempt at discovering us has failed.
They did not hit us with their phaser barage."
The respect in the Jem'Hadar's voice was noticeable, however.
"You respect them." Kevoi said with anger in his voice.
The Jem'Hadar regarded the Vorta cooly, almost with disdain.
"It is a fool who does not respect the intelligence of his enemy. The
Federation is a worthy foe." The First waved towards the VALHALLA. "Do you
think that Starfleet would have a ship of fools and idiots on the behemoth
we face off against? The fighter commander was almost successful, even
though we were perfectly concealed. We would do well to be extremely
careful. They may figure out we are here, or..."
"...or," the Vorta finished for himself, "...they may figure out or attempt
at mentally manipulating and de-stabilizing their mental facilities with our
trap."
The Vorta walked forward, while everyone on the bridge remained silent.
"Have we received any intelligence on the results of the probe on the crew
of the ship?"
Another Vorta walked forward, and handed a data pad to the Commander.
"Excellent...it has already started."
Scene: USS VALHALLA, Main Engineering
"Report!" Mittal barked at his engineers, all running around and trying to
put Pandora back into her box.
"Ensign Xor was right sir! I...don't know how to contain it!"
The JAG officer had been extremely useful in helping them narrow down what
this thing was. Now they just had to figure out how to contain it...or
better yet, remove it. It was resisting all attempts to scan it internally,
and the crew had begun to see things, hear things, and worse...to feel
things!
"Commander Mittal! We need to..."
"I know!" Mittal barked at the XO. Cooper blinked, and Mittal sighed. "Sir.
I apologize."
Cooper put his right hand on the shoulder of his chief engineer and smiled,
"No harm done old friend. I barked as well. We are both at..."
Cooper eyes went wide with terror, as he realised that the bulkhead had
opened into space.
"Emergency force field! Now!"
Several engineers fell over themselves trying to follow the command of the
XO, even though they didn't know where they were to put the force field!
"Belay that!" Rianov yelled, noting that everyone seemed to be acting
strangely. For some reason, none of this was affecting him.
"Commander Cooper." Rianov said flatly, "It appears my superior Romulan
physiology is not being affected by these strange energy readings that Xor
has discovered. Perhaps you should head to the bridge, and I will assume
command down here with the engineering staff." Rianov didn't mention that it
appeared that Klingons and Humans appeared to be affected the most out of
the crew.
Cooper blinked, and was about to bark a very irrated response when he
realised the Romulan 2nd Officer was right.
"Very well. Carry on."
With that Cooper headed to the bridge.
Scene: USS VALHALLA, Sickbay
Dr. Ilias was swamped. Without a full time Counsellor assigned as of yet,
she and her medical staff had been working over time. There were also
several bumps and bruises from people striking objects, or dodging phantom
blades, etc. It was becoming a tough time already. The other medical staff
had been going for several hours straight now, and with no likelihood it was
going to end soon. That was when their first real casualty had arrived.
"Doctor! Doctor! It is Major Van Zandt! It looks like he has third degree
phaser rifle burns over half of his body! Sergeant Hosyi has been taken into
custody, but from what I hear, it was an accident!"
The nurse who had reported to Jhael was obviously upset.
"It is okay Nurse. Beverly." She took the woman's hand, and said, "Bring him
in. Calm down, we will do what we can for him."
The Doctor's calm demeanor helped to stabilize the rookie nurse, and she
swallowed. "Of course Doctor. Right away."
She went back into the hall, and led the Marine medical team into Sickbay,
right to the burn unit and the Surgeons.
Moving towards the large Marine Major, she began to operate on him...how did
this happen?

Carver sat in his command chair, and heard all of the reports from every
corner of the ship. It was chaos. Great for his first command. The only
three people on board who seemed unaffected were the Doctor, Rianov and
M'Sai, who was presently guarding the bridge, and his Captain.
"Captain, this smells like a Vorta trap."
Looking at his trusted comrade and friend, Carver nodded. He wiped the sweat
from his forehead, and added, "Yes. I think they have a ship out there. I
bet it's a big one too."
Looking at Lt. Stern manning the security console, Carver said, "Is Ensign
Moore still out there?"
"Yes sir. She is returning to the VALHALLA as we speak."
Carver nodded, and wondered out loud. "She said she thought there was
someone out there, but her attempts to locate them failed."
"Yes sir." Stern agreed. "Perhaps if we added a few more ships to the
search?"
Carver smiled, and looked at the security chief. "Exactly what I was
thinking Lieutenant. Launch them all, and have Moore placed in command. She
is to coordinate everything."
"Aye sir. Anything else?"
"Yes. Tell her to find that ship. Our lives depend on it."
